Dear Mattingley families and friends,
Where has this term gone? We have had a wonderful time getting to
know each other and all our families as well. We really have been busy over the
last 11 weeks, exploring our new learning environment, observing our tadpoles
grow, learning about our bodies, sharing our knowledge of sea creatures,
creating beautiful art work and much, much more. Some beautiful friendships
have developed and some strong friendships have been maintained from the
transition from Langley to Mattingley. There have been a few tears, lots of
laughter, glitter, paint and lots and lots of fun. Mrs Rocca and Mrs Mason can
not wait for the learning journey the children will take us next term.
This week we went in search of a new play space to explore in the
Prep School. Armed with our morning tea, our hats and a camera we made the long
trek up the path to where the big boys play. We stopped on the oval to have our
morning tea. It was recess so we were able to watch the big boys playing many
different games. After we had finished eating we continued our journey to the
Rainbow Playground. The children were all very excited to see this new place to
explore and ran enthusiastically into the yard.
Watch me! I do this all the time- Felix exclaimed as he slide down
the poles
I found a truck- Paxton
Watch me! Watch me!- Roman
I go fast down the slide- Marcel
I liked the swing- Sidney
I like the sand pit- Jason
Hopefully we can spend more time in this hidden away playground
next term.
Next week is the first week of the Autumn program. Mrs Mason will
be on holidays for the first week but will be back in the second week so Mrs
Rocca can go on her long awaited holiday back home. There are many wonderful
things programed for the coming weeks. You will be able to find this program on
the window as you walk into the classroom. If you have any questions please
don't hesitate to email Mrs Rocca in the first week. Her email is crocca@staff.pac.edu.au.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend,
Kimberley Mason and Coney Rocca
The eight Classrooms in the ELC are named in tribute to many
significant women in the life of the college.
The Mattingley classroom is named after Christobel Mattingley.
Christobel's father was an old Scholar at PAC . Her husband David was
appointed to staff in 1954 and in 1956 she was appointed as College librarian.
Christobel established the JF Ward Memorial Library in the Colton Wing in the main
building. Christobel Mattingley is one of Australia's best loved authors
who has written more then forty books.
On Wednesday morning we were lucky to meet both Mrs and Mr Mattingley.
Christobel shared with us her new book, which was beautiful. It was lovely to
meet the inspiring woman our classroom is named after.
