Dear Edgerley Parents,
What a fantastic final week of term one. We were lucky
enough to experience some gorgeous Autumn weather and particularly enjoyed our
explorations outside this week. The first half of the week saw the boys working
with chalk in the garden, creating wonderful shared murals on the walls and
crushing it into powder as part of their inquiry into making materials that they
can use to illustrate.
In the later part of the week the boys worked together
as a whole class to create giant volcanoes complete with bridges to carry water
and caves for various animals to hide from the lava. Led by Felix who shared a
million different ideas for the volcano project, we hope to further this
investigation in the first week of the Autumn program with more volcanoes in
the sandpit. We are keen to see if we can make one erupt!
Our map exploration continued this week with us using rulers
to create grids over our maps. We felt very special using permanent markers and
clear film! We talked about how we use the numbers and letters at the side of
maps to help us locate the places we would like to go to. We tried it all
together and it was fun! We can’t wait to see where this investigation goes
next!
As next week will be school holidays Mr Ty will lead the
Edgerley Autumn program and has lots of fun things organised for the children.
We will be lucky enough to have Mrs Murdy joining us and she will stay with us
for the eight weeks that Mrs Bishop is on long service leave. Mrs McKenzie
will be back in two weeks time.
We hope that those who are taking a break for
the holidays have a safe and restful time. Unfortunately we have had quite a
bit if illness over the last two weeks, typified by a fever, nasty cough. Keep
a look out for any symptoms and please let Ms Garland know if your child is
unable to come to ELC .
Have a lovely weekend
Mel, Emma and Ty
