Angwin

Dear Angwin families,

We have enjoyed another jam packed week this week. We visited our buddies in the big school to make the pizzas that we ran a survey for last term. We enjoyed slopping ingredients all over 3Bi’s classroom. After the pizzas had all been cooked we were mysteriously two pizzas short, we think that they may have been gingerbread pizzas and ran out of the oven!

Luckily Ms Wegener was on hand with her super pizza making skills to whip up two new ones! We also made milkshakes in the classroom. Again we used our maths skills to survey the children to find out our favourite ingredients. Banana and strawberries won hands down! We looked at the machine we used to make them and thought about what was making it work.

“It needs power, electricity” suggested Aiden
“It’s got cogs inside, cogs make things go round” said Arwyn

We looked at the end from a safe distance as Mrs Bishop pushed the button. Arwyn was right! The sharp bits at the end whizzed round and round!

We also went on a hunt for spring flowers in the college, we were surprised at how many we discovered. As we walked past the chapel we found a wall of beautiful flowers and had a great time scaling the rocks like mountain goats to pluck all of the various colours. We decided to press our flowers and created a giant flower press outside our room (we decorated it and added chairs around it to keep the little children away because it is very wobbly). We changed the paper on Friday and found that it was very damp.

“The water in the flowers gets squashed out and it’s the juice” said Joe R
“When it’s a little seed and the rain comes it all goes into the flower when it grows up and that is the water (that we can see)” said Oscar

We also began to make gifts for our fathers, we need to use a machine to make it, can you guess what it might be? No peeking!

Next week we are making a doctors surgery to use up all the medicine the children have been making in the sand pit.

“We really need to make more medicine so we can give it to people, well, the people that don’t have money or homes or food”, said Arwyn
“They have to pay twenty million thousand for this medicine”, Samuel answered
“ No, we don’t have to do that. They can have it for free”, said Arwyn
“But why?”, asked Samuel
“Well, they don’t have money to buy food so they don’t have money for medicine too”, Leon answered and Arwyn agreed
“Okay, we make more medicine then, and maybe we will deliver this to sick people in the whole wide world”, Samuel agreed

If you have any props we can use in our doctors surgery such as old masks, stethoscopes etc… we would love to use them.

We have also changed where we keep our portfolios. They are now on the shelf outside our room. Feel free to take a seat in the black and white chair and have a look at your child’s investigations before heading off to work. Feel free to leave a comment for them if you want to J

Happy reading

Love from the Angwin team
