Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,

We have had a fantastic time this week celebrating Diwali, the Hindi festival of light. On Wednesday Sujay's parents Babu and Sushmitha brought some delicious Galub Jamun for us to try, which is a milk-solids- based dessert, similar to dumplings.

On Thursday Sujay brought in some photos from his families celebrations to share with his friends. He showed us his special clothes he wore and explained what Diwali means to him:

"I had sparklers and some lamps. We put some fire on the stick and it was yellow. Mum and Dad did it for us. I was wearing a beautiful dress. A very beautiful dress, a blue one. My Mum wear a beautiful dress like me. It was orange.  We sit on the floor to pray to God, then we eat sweets and then have the sparklers in the garden."

We talked about the meaning of Diwali and how it is celebrated with many light for decorations. We lit sparklers and made Diwali rangoli designs with coloured salt to celebrate. Thank you to Sujay, Babu and Sushmitha for sharing your celebration with us.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

The Mattingley Team
