Mead

Dear Mead Room families and friends,

We have 2 little frogs in the Mead Room now!

One of the exciting discoveries we have made (apart from the whole metamorphosis experience!!), is that Vivienne told us the frogs would be camouflaged……….
We asked Vivienne what that meant and both she and Elsie exclaimed -
You can’t see it!

There are times when we are looking for our miniscule frogs when we really have to look hard to discern where they are.
Some of the children wondered why a creature would need to be camouflaged;
Zahli – He doesn’t want anyone to see him
Lucius & Charlotte – They’re hiding from us

But why?
Lucius – ‘Cos we’re big
Vivi – He’s shy
Charlotte – He’s only small
Zahli – The chickens might eat them!

So to protect them from someone eating them is a very good and rational reason for being camouflaged!  We loved the idea of camouflage and enthusiastically investigated our learning spaces to discover if we could glimpse creatures that were hiding in plain sight.

We still have one tadpole left and we are eagerly awaiting the process of metamorphosis to begin in earnest for the last time.
Jack – I see one tadpole! A long tail. They change into frogs and lay eggs, and tadpoles come out
Grace-Marie – Frogs lay eggs, then they turn into tadpoles.  And tadpoles turn into frogs!
Houyi – Its got water. They live in there. It turns into a frog
Leonardo – They’re turning into frogs, their legs come out
Millie – So they can actually swim at the top of the water
Hamish – They can swim with their tails at the back. They eat plants for their lunch
Poppy – I see tadpoles, they turn into frogs and they stay frogs forever
Rupert – They turn into frogs, they get no tail when they turn into a frog
Cody – Tadpoles get back legs, then front legs, their tail gets shorter and shorter and shorter and they they’re frogs
Tom – When they’re big they can eat crickets

If you get the chance to go online, have a look at Peter Combe singing ‘Tadpole Blues’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AgtocqTEnA
We have been singing this unique song A LOT!!!

Take care of each other,

Melissa and Georgia
