Langley

Langley Families

Our first week of holidays has been very colourful.
We have been learning all about rainbows so thought it would be lots fun for the children to dress in different colours throughout the week.

Our special colour for Monday was red. Declan brought in some bright red balloons to show his friends.
Wednesday, the colour to look out for was orange and Friday we celebrated the colour yellow.
On Thursday we went on an adventure to the 'big school', in search for items red, orange or yellow.
The children were extremely excited and loved our journey around the school yard. We saw so many interesting things and some we have never seen before which was a nice surprise.

Just a few dates for you to remember for the next couple of weeks:

Green - Tuesday 12th July

Blue - Thursday 14th July

Indigo - Monday 18th July

Violet - Friday 22nd July

We look forward to seeing the children in their colours next week and heading off on some more adventures.

Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Brooke, Miss Emily and Miss Renee.

Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Families

It has been a welcome break for the children from the rigours of the term. The children have enjoyed week 1 of the winter break so far with some free play activities. Some children just had fun blowing up balloons.

If it is not cold enough already, the Edgerley class wanted to set up an Ice cream shop in the home corner. We made some paper cones and had some different flavours offered to eat, which include grape, banana and strawberry. Coffee was also a popular refreshment which was made to order.

The Wednesday children watched the movie ‘Cloud with a Chance of Meatballs’ with a treat of popcorn on the side. It was enjoyed by all (movie and popcorn).

During the week we had some time for a ‘kick and a catch’ of football on the courts or just a fun run for those who wanted to. Some children are quite interested in football at the moment and love to play the game.

Have a great weekend and look forward to seeing everyone next weekend.

Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,

We have had a wonderful start to our holidays with the children enjoying their new play spaces and resources, venturing outdoors as well as exploring new individual and group interests.
As per our previous discussions on camping sparked by Annaliese interest, the children planned a camping set up offering their thoughts and ideas.

"We need a tent", said Felix
"Food, so we don't die", added Walter
"Sausages and sauce" suggested Sidney.
"It goes with bread", said Eloise.
"And torch", said William
"And beds or sleeping bags", quipped Chloe
"And make sure you have a teddy to snuggle with", added Sidney.

So we went into work, preparing our set up and talked about how to maintain the space as we play. We even have some warm beanies as wells as a proper portable stove for Mrs Rocca's coffee.

To collect leaves and other natural materials for our threading project, we ventured into the school grounds to see what we could find. We managed to sneak in a bit of time to play in the top oval playground as well.

But of course, the highlight of our week is our much awaited excursion to the botanical gardens to experience a walk into a real forest. We were so excited knowing that we would get there by bus and talked about how to be safe on our trip.

"You have to stay with an adult", said Amelia.
"Hold hands", added Fred.
"And out your seatbelt when on the bus", reminded Walter.
"And find your mummy and daddy or you are lost", said Jason.

The children and some of our parents enjoyed a beautiful day at the gardens and we definitely spotted a whole lot of interesting stuff at the forest.

"So many big leaves", said Joshua D.
"and lots and lots of tree. big tall ones" shared Leo.
"I saw a river with lots of water", said William.

It was wonderful to share this experience with the children while creating awareness of the world surrounding them.

We would like to leave you this thought of wonder from Walter that would be good to ask our children in this modern world.

" I already know a lot about forest and we saw in the video that some people (Yanomami tribe of Brazil) do live in the forest but what I really, really wonder about is "How do they not get bored living there"?"

Next Wednesday is Casual Day: If your child attends this day, they can come in their play appropriate casual attire .

Until next week,

Coney and Melissa

Chapple

Dear Chapple Families

This week wraps up the first half of the year. The children went to watch the Edgerley graduation as a taste of things to come for the Chapple children.

You should all have received a copy of the literacy program for Terms 3 and 4. Show and Tell will be based around this.

The children have been continuing with keeping safe and have been practising ringing for an ambulance in an emergency. The children are becoming very responsible citizens. It was very amusing last week to hear them tell Peter the Police which mums used their phones whilst driving and which dads drive too fast! The policeman could hardly contain his amusement when one or two children told him to look out for the colour and make of their parents’ car.
Sea Star Rock came and performed for us and were a great success.

Zoe: There was a blue whale, a pirate.

Lachlan: A star sea.

Zoe: And a scary monster they showed.

Lucas: It was funny when the dolphin came.

Benji: My favourite was the pirate and the whale café.

Hannah: we danced. They changed their costumes.

Abi:I liked the pirate.

Lucy: I danced with Sea Star Rock.

Adi: I like the person who turned into a surf board and the whale and penguin and crab. The crab pinched.

Edgerley

Dear Edgerely Families,

The final week of the term has finally arrived and we have spent the week preparing for big changes.

We enjoyed preparing our mini concert for you that we performed at graduation. The children voted and decided on the songs to perform, and true to form, choose some of our noisiest action songs.

Luckily on the day of graduation we all remembered to keep our feet still so we didn’t stomp or steam off the edge of the stage! What a wonderful morning celebrating with our graduates in the chapel. There seemed to not be a dry eye in the house after Mr Ty’s video, and lots of requests for copies. If you would like a copy of the video burned for you please e-mail your request to tsimmonds@pac.edu.au. Mr Ty would be happy to burn you a copy and it will be available to be collected on the first day of next term, the 25th of July.

You will also notice there are no photos attached to our blog post this week. This is partly because we have been so busy that we didn’t even get to pick up a camera this week but also because there is no way we could compete with the beautiful photos taken by Dwayne from Festival Photos. Dwaynes photos will be uploaded by next week and available to be viewed at www.festivalphoto.com.au .
Don’t forget the password is Princes2016. We hope you enjoy looking at them.

It has been a pleasure and an honour to work with all of the children in the Edgerley room and Emma, Ty and I will miss them greatly. It has been a wonderful year filled with the fantastic ideas and inquiries sparked by the boys knowledge and experiences as well as lots of laughs and hugs. We know that the teachers who have the good luck to become their teachers in the new semester will count themselves very lucky. We will definitely miss our special bunch of little fellows. Emma, Ty and I, along with Emma Gray from far away, would like to thank all of the Edgerley Mums and Dads for their support, trust and kindness throughout the year and wish you all the best of luck for a new academic year filled with fun and investigation.

Lots of love from the team in Edgerley,

Emma, Mel, Ty and Emma J

Angwin

Dear Parents and Friends,

We have enjoyed being together this week, following lots of different interests of the children.

One of our projects has been building our own airports…
One morning Sidney and Denver were very busy first thing in the morning building their own aeroplane. It was very long and had many windows, a tail and a cockpit. They were keen to use their plane in their play.

Oliver: My dad’s on a plane right now going to Canada! He went in a taxi very early so I got to snuggle in Mummy’s bed and we went back to sleep!

Harry H: My dad’s going to Sydney!

Harry BB: I been on a plane to Sydney too!

Dominic: My dad’s going to Greece!

Oliver: Look here guys! There’s lots of ideas (pouring over the photos)

Harry H: It’s a plane shed!

Oliver: It’s a hangar.. it needs to be longer to fit the plane.

William: Can you make one for me?

Robert: It needs a bus and a bus station… Here’s mine!

Sidney: It goes like this and then it goes up.. (showing Harry H how to fly his plane)

Oliver: I’m going to build the control tower now.

Sidney: We’ll need a forest because real planes go through a forest.

Harry BB: The runway’s blocked!

Harry H: My dad’s on a tiger plane.

The excitement and interest is wonderful to see!

We had a great concert showing off our Dancify numbers from our term’s dancing sessions with Miss Erin.

We have enjoyed some great play in the home corner and there has even been a school in residence in our class, using all our signs, checklists, the bell and lots of writing!

Wishing you all a wonderful Winter holiday. Stay safe and enjoy some good family time. Miss Bowden and Wenting will be with the children during the holidays and I shall look forward to returning in 3 weeks time.

Kind Regards,
Pip, Coral and Wenting

Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,

What a wonderful term we have had together. We are not really sure where the weeks have gone, but we know we have learnt a lot together, especially about forests. We can't wait for our excursion next Thursday morning. Hopefully our 'rain away' dances will keep the rain away, just for the morning. Please make sure you fill in a bring back your new consent forms.

Tuesday morning we had 'Sea Star Rock' come to our ELC to perform for us. We had lots of fun dancing with the wonderful sea creatures that came to visit us, teaching us how to take care of the ocean that they live in.

I like dancing- Billy

Under water- Oliver

I love dancing so much- Lilah

I like the statue part- Audrey

The crocodile danced- Paxton

Um, a dolphin dances- Walter

I liked the singing- Jason

My favorite was the crab. I seen a broken crab on the beach before- William

I like the dancing- Edie

This term we have been very lucky to have Erin from Dancify teach us some very groovy new dances. We hope all the parents who were able to come for our mini concert Friday morning enjoyed the show! We certainly had lots of fun performing them for you. We would like to say a very big thank you to Erin, who bought her energy and enthusiasm with her each week as she worked with the children to create some wonderful dances. It was lovely to see the children expressing themselves though dance, moving their bodies and having lots of fun. We saw confidence grow each week, as some children stepped outside their comfort zone and participated with enthusiasm as the weeks went on. We hope that Erin will come back next year.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Cooper

Dear Cooper room families,

Wow! What an amazing time we have had together in the Cooper room this year. It has been a pleasure supporting the each person in the Cooper room grow and develop over the past year. I know that you are all very excited for the next stage in your learning journey as you set off next door to the Edgerley room. Thank you to everyone who came to our class party on Thursday, it was a lovely way to celebrate our time together.

Good luck and farewell to Joshua Baird and his family who are about to embark on a very exciting adventure to Korea.

Happy Birthday to Hamish Thompson, Henry Stirling and Rory McDonald who all turned 4 this week!

Thank you for such a wonderful year.
Love Miss Gilbert and Miss C

Mead

Dear Mead Room families and friends,

This week we have been consolidating our understandings of light, dark and shadow; we have been closely observing our daffodil bulbs, and representing our understandings of daffodil flowers using acrylic paint, we have also been articulating what Winter means and taking every opportunity to be outside in the sunshine (when we see the sunshine that is!).

We also managed to squeeze in a concert performed by Sea Star Rock and Chinese lessons!

Enjoy your weekend!

From Melissa, Elodie and Rosalie

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins Friends and Families,

This week we had a very special visit from SeaStar Rock! SeaStar Rock is a locally produced music and dance show for kids. It promotes marine sustainability using charismatic characters, catchy songs, and colourful costumes to explore the world.  Since a successful live performance launch at the Adelaide Fringe in 2015, SeaStar Rock has been performing to thousands of children around South Australia. The children were able to join in by following the dance moves and singing along to their catchy tunes. Thank you to Mr Charlwood for organising such a wonderful show for the whole center.

As we are nearing the end of term we have been noticing how much our little Wilkins friends have progressed. Some have been engaging more with their interest in reading and we often find them quietly looking through a book in a quiet space. Some have been pushing their gross motor abilities and taking risks on our outdoor climbing and balancing equipment. And others have really come out of their shell and have begun making friendships with their peers. It has been wonderful watching their confidence grow and some have been able to express their current interests with their teachers in order for us to plan meaningful experiences.

We are looking forward to our upcoming holiday programme, please have a little look to see if we have any activities planned on your child's days which require special dress or something from home. Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week!

From Mrs Jess, Mrs Nicole, Miss Ellen, Miss Georgia and Miss Kim

PS Miss Ellen is about to take off on her exciting overseas adventure! We hope she has a wonderful time and we will see her back with us in 5 weeks.

Langley

Dear Langley families,

We have ventured to letter-land this week. The children have continued to practice their writing skills with chalk and textas as they look at their name cards and letters on the wall, and have been printing with letter shaped sponges. We have also used our name cards at group times to help us take turns into the bathroom to wash our hands. Some children have begun to make the connection between words being made up of letters - amazing literacy skills!

It was a performing arts kind of week as we had a special performance from "SeaStar Rock" on Tuesday and Dancify came to an end. At both sessions children displayed all their action, movement and dance skills. Thank you Miss Erin and the SeaStar Rock team!

Finally, this week marks the end of Term 2! This also means that many of our Langley friends only have a few more weeks with us before they move classrooms. We would like to wish Sebastian A, Sebastian B, Joshua, Xavier, Isaac B, Linda, Isaac C, Declan, Larissa, Ed, Grace, Ned and James every success as they continue on to their next learning journey in the Cooper room!

During the Winter program, the Langley team plan to create a rainbow collage with the children as they have shown a keen interest in the changing weather and rainbows over the last few weeks. We ask that you dress your child in particular colours on the following dates so all can be included:

Monday 4th July - RED
Wednesday 6th July - ORANGE
Friday 8th July - YELLOW
Tuesday 12th July - GREEN
Thursday 14th July - BLUE
Monday 18th July - INDIGO
Friday 22nd July - VIOLET

Have a great week

Sarah, Brooke, Emily and Renee
