Dear Mattingley parents and friends,

This week in the Mattingley room we have really been getting into the Christmas spirit. We have made candy cane bracelets, purple snow, wrapped boxes as presents to put under our tree and made beautiful Christmas tree paintings with a shining star on top. 

On Wednesday, we even made yummy Christmas cupcakes! Along with lots of festive experiences we have been washing and taking care of babies as we have many pregnant Mummies in our class and are starting to practice how to take care of them in preparation for the new arrivals.

Dear Edgerley

Wow, what a start to the week, HOT! Luckily we had prepared with some large blocks of ice to play with and be ‘cool’. Also to help cool down during the afternoon had some ice blocks to eat and cool off some more.

On our school adventure we ended up at the ‘Rainbow Playground’ and it is always a popular holiday destination with the children.

The picnic in the secret garden was an eventful adventure. We found not one secret place but four secret gardens to explore. While exploring and running around the last secret place Johnny said “Mr Ty I’ve found the way out”. So we all followed Johnny and found the Main Oval where there was (guess) more running.

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins families and friends,

We can’t believe how quickly the first week of the summer holidays has flown by. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun.

We have kept busing enjoying the cooler weather and playing outside in the sand. Making sand castles using wet sand and knocking them down. We have also enjoyed getting dirty in the jungle.

We have also been excited to have our indoor play space rearranged. We have enjoyed having the book nook where we can sit under the fairy lights and read our favourite stories, playing in the dirt with animals, doing puzzles and continuing to create delicious meals in our home corner.

On Thursday we had lots of fun creating reindeer food. We used oats and red glitter and mixed them together and placed into little bags. On Christmas eve we will sprinkle the food on our front garden so Santa’s reindeers can find their way to our house.

Thursday 17th December:  Wheels day

Bring a bike or scooter to ride! All children need to bring a helmet

Friday 18th December: Movie day!

Dress in Christmas colours/ your favorite Christmas top/hat to celebrate our last day and the Christmas holidays!

If you have any spare ELC clothing at home can you please return it asap. We are running short on undies, shorts and socks.

Mead

Hello Mead friends and families,

During this week the Mead children have been busily preparing for Christmas. We spent time making Christmas trees out of twigs and we finished off our salt dough gingerbread tree decorations.

We also explored the big school, visiting the Rainbow Playground in the prep school for a glorious morning on the swings, running in the yard and playing in the sandpit. We also walked over to the Red Centre to practice our balls skills. While we were there the wonderful staff donated a collection of new balls to the ELC...Thank you!

On Wednesday we celebrated Charlie’s 4^th birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed the cupcakes…thanks Charlie!

On Friday we participated in a mini 'wet'n'wild' morning with Cooper and Mattingley children. The children loved going down the water slide and playing in the stream.

**Please note that in preparation for the big move to the Chapple Room we will be ending 'sleep time' in the Mead Room on Friday 18th December. We will however be having rest time**

Angwin

Dear Angwin families and friends,

We have had a busy but awesome start to the Summer holidays. Though we had friends who said goodbye for the year, it's  good to know we still have many friends to spend the rest of the year with.

The children really enjoyed their fun wet and wild water play getting soaked, splashed and squirted ( even Mrs Rocca wasn't safe at all !). They enjoyed making muddy puddles and volcanos in the sandpit.

William and Ethan even showed their friends how to  make a volcano erupt and release red lava with bi carb soda and vinegar.

On Wednesday, the children shared their favourite Christmas stories when they brought their Christmas books from home. This sparked an interest in reindeers among the children.

"Reindeers help pull Santa's sleigh", said William.

"Yeah! To deliver all the presents", added Aiden.

"In all over the world", said Sam

"They have to be very strong and have to eat a lot of carrots", thought Leon.

Because of this interest, the children decided to watch "Flight Before Christmas" on our movie day with lots of yummy popcorn.

We have been watching cricket games on the oval as well and loving our races and playground play.

We have also been doing cosmic kids yoga and this week we met Tiny the T-rex and he showed us many of his yoga moves and learnt them ourselves.

We are looking forward to spending the last week before the year ends.

Please remember the following dates and activity:

17th Thursday WHEELS DAY!- bring a bike or a scooter for your child to ride. make sure to bring their helmets too for the whole feel of it! we will block off the ELC carpark to accommodate for this activity.

18th Friday WET and WILD Water Play Day- pack a swim gear or spares and a towel to enjoy a soaking on a warm beach weather.

Dear Parents and Friends,

We have sadly come to the end of the year and have been chatting a lot about moving onto school and graduating from the ELC. The staff in Angwin are very sad to be saying goodbye, but we know that all the children are feeling confident and excited about the move to the big school! It’s been a wonderful year together and we will all miss each other a lot. How time flies when you’re having fun!

This week we discussed the meaning of graduating, and what will be different at school next year.

Dear ELC families

As the year draws to an end, I write to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and happy and safe 2016.  I am sure as parents of young children you will be looking forward to the excitement of Christmas and the opportunity to spend some time engaging with your children without the stresses of work, albeit for a few days.

Last Monday evening I was fortunate enough to catch up with many families at the 2016 Information Evening.  During my address I shared a little about the College and the opportunities it offers boys.  We are very proud of our ELC and the exceptional staff that care for your children.  I shared the Colleges commitment to continuing that example of excellence in teaching and learning beyond the ELC and into the College.  We look forward to many of the boys in the ELC joining us in reception and in the years to come.  

We have limited places available in the College and should you wish for your son to join at some stage in the future, collecting a prospectus and booking a place in your chosen year level is advisable.  We have larger intakes at Year 5, 7 and 10.

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins families and friends,

This week in the Wilkins room we have enjoyed doing lots of Christmas crafts. Decorating pine cones, creating foam baubles and cutting out Christmas cards to stick onto coloured paper.

We have also enjoyed acting out parts of some of our favorite stories... Little Lumpty and

Sticky Jam the story of sugar. We have been using the felt board and pictures from the stories

to re-tell the story to each other.

Miss Karla also set up two painting easels so we have been able to do paintings in small groups. We have really enjoyed this. It is good to practice doing things together and working as a team.

Now the weather has warmed up again we have been excited to start using the hose again. We just love playing in the water, mud and sand in the Wilkins room. Please remember to pack spare clothes in your child's bag.

On Thursday we said farewell our amazing Chinese teacher Lao Shi! We have enjoyed learning the Chinese songs she sings with us and also listening to some of our favorite stories re-told in Chinese. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

On Friday we will be saying goodbye to Miss Karla as she awaits the birth of her baby! We can't wait! We enjoyed some yummy cupcakes to celebrate! We hope to see Miss Karla for a visit again soon! We are excited to welcome Miss Georgia to the class in Miss Karla's absence.

Next week we will begin our holiday program. Please keep an eye out for any special dates on the door.

We will be holding a wheels day for the children on Thursday 17th December. Children are invited

to bring in a bike or scooter to ride at school. Please make sure your children also have a helmet.

Where did that year go? 

It was lovely to see so many of you at the graduation, it was a lovely way to send the children off.

Thank you sincerely for all your kind gifts and words, they were very much appreciated.

We have really enjoyed this year, we have shared some great times.

For those of you who missed William’s words at the end of the graduation movie, we will share them again as it really summed up the year.

Dear Edgerley Families,

This week we celebrated Ella, Zoe, Andrei, Tallulah and Declan’s graduation. We wish them all the best as they continue on their learning journey. The children shared a cake and sang ‘happy graduation’ to their graduating peers. As a class we talked about the children graduating and what a graduation is.

It’s when you celebrate when the girls go to different schools. Ben

Tallulah and Zoe were excited after coming back from their transition visits and shared some of what they did.

“The big school children came to my kindy, and there was a big girl called Ella. My next door neighbour goes there and I got to play with her” said Tallulah.

“When I went there I saw my teacher, Miss Danielle. I played with Scarlett in the home corner. I had my snack there. I had to bring my own food there” Zoe explained.

It has been a great semester in the Edgerley classroom. We wish you all a very happy Christmas and an even better New Year!

Dear Mattingley friends and families,

This week we have been celebrating significant stages of our lives. On Tuesday, we enjoyed a Chinese wedding for Miss Mason. After a shower of confetti and shouting ‘Gong shi’ (congratulations) Miss Mason took her seat ready for her Chinese surprises. We drank green tea, which was genuinely very popular, sung Chinese songs and Miss Mason shared red packets as gifts to the children. We finished with the children presenting Miss Mason a book full of drawings of her in a wedding dress and a kind gift of a lucky shoe horse from Izabella. 

On Thursday, we had our class party, and whilst technology was not on our side we enjoyed spending time with the children and families.  

Friday was the last day of term for the year and we had many giggles with the children recapping on our time together. It has been an amazing year getting to know all the beautiful children and families we wish you all the best for the future.

Another busy week in the Mead Room!

This week we have been making Gingerbread Men…. again!  However this time we made them with salt dough so no eating is advised!  We have been creating decorations for your Christmas tree and they will be ready to take home next week!  We were able to revisit our  Numeracy, Literacy and Science skills as we had to follow another recipe, with different ingredients and a different procedure to follow.

We said a fond farewell to Laoshi this week – Kath House is leaving us.  The children have thoroughly revelled in the interactive, spontaneous and fun Chinese lessons we have had with her.

Seb – I like the number game (with fly swats!)

Happy Birthday to Spencer and Noah!

The Summer program begins next week, we have emailed a copy to you and there is one on the door to the Mead Room.  Looks like lots of summer fun and engagement with Miss White and Miss Melissa.

Time seems to be speeding up as the moments I spend as your child’s teacher draws to a close.  I am thrilled that they will have the opportunity to have a wonderful transition to Chapple Room, and for our Mead Room friends who are leaving for different schools – we will miss you, but hope to see you at the shops!!

Well, just like that, we’ve reached the end of Term 4! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun, and boy oh boy do we have lots of fun at school!

To finish up our Unit of Inquiry for this year, we asked the children to reflect on their baby photos to see if they could notice the changes that had happened to their bodies. Here is what some had to say:

Paxton – That me, because it colour. I play on the grass. I small baby and me cry. I play with baby toys.

Chloe – Um, I’m going to sleep and I played the guitar. Mumma wrapped me up, she swaddled me and she put me on a horse and the horse wouldn’t move. I wear dresses and just play outside. I said “Ma, ma ma” and I said “Da, da, da”. My feet weren’t bigger.  

Sam – That’s my mum and dad. That is my picture that is very special to me. I have changed, I changed into my pyjamas. There was snow last year when I was a baby.

On Wednesday, Miss Georgia spotted something in the leaves of the orange tree.

Ashton asked, “What is it?”

Miss Georgia explained it was a Praying Mantis and gave the children a closer look. It was very hard to see when it was in the tree; the Mantis was the same colour as the leaves!

Billy – On da (that) plant. Dimbing (climbing) up and down. It reen (green).

Dear Cooper families,

What a great week we have had to wrap up the end of term 4! We had our class Christmas party on Thursday in the Cooper room to celebrate our first 2 terms together as a class. The children baked a special Christmas cake for our friends and loved ones to share for our afternoon tea. It was delicious! We have also been finishing off our Christmas gifts that we gave to our mums and dads at the Christmas party. They looked amazing and we were very proud of how they turned out.

We have been lucky to have numerous lady bug sightings this week near the chicken coop in the outside area. We found a whopping 6 on Wednesday! Lexie was the first to find one and the children decided that they wanted to keep it.

Lexie – I found it from the chickens. Lady birds have wings.

Miss Gilbert – should we find a small bowl or bucket to put it in.

The children all agreed that this was a good plan. Once we found a suitable bucket, we encountered a problem.

Lexie – It wants to come out.

Miss Gilbert – What could we do to make it want to stay in there?

Zara – Put grass!

Miss Gilbert – Good idea Zara. What do you think that lady birds like to eat?

Zara – Bark

Angus Owler – Leaves

Sebastian Horvath – I think it eats slugs and snails.

We collected grass, sticks and bark to make its home. The children took great care in deciding which leaves and bark to place in the bucket. The children searched and collected many more lady birds and in the process discovered that when they are scared “they fly away!” – Angus Owler

We would also like to say goodbye and good luck to Kingsley Ip who is leaving our ELC next week. It has been lovely getting to know you and seeing the wonderful friendships that you have developed over the past 6 months. We will all miss you very much!
