Langley Room

Dear Langley families and friends,

This week we found out that not all milk comes from cows. We tried four different types of milk. Rice milk, soya milk, dairy milk and chocolate flavoured milk. First we tried the rice milk, Miss Emily showed us the carton and then using our Samsung tablets she showed us pictures of rice and how the milk was made from it.

“Milk” – Domenic
“It’s made from eggs?” – Knox
“This is rice milk, it’s made from rice” said Miss Emily
“Rice” – Patrick
“Rice? I don’t know!” – Nathan
“It looks different to cow milk” – Domenic
“I love it” – Alexander
“Yummy” – Angus R-R
“I don’t love it” – Harry F
“Yuck” said Sterling as he sipped and screwed up his face, shaking his head.
“This one is soy milk” Miss Emily showed us what soy beans look like then we tasted the soy milk.
“I like it” – Angelina
“It yummy” – Knox
“It taste better than rice” – Alexander
“I like soy” – Toby
“Let’s have a drink” – Alexander
We then tried dairy milk, Miss Emily showed us a picture of someone milking a cow.
“He’s trying to take the milk out his bottom” – Alexander
“Milk comes from a milk cow” – Ansh
“I like cow milk” – Harry F
Then we tried chocolate flavoured milk!
“It comes from a normal cow” – Alexander
“Then you put chocawat (chocolate) in it” – Domenic
“It’s a white cow” – Harry F
“Choccy” – Harry J H
“This one is good for me” – Harry F
“It’s like custard” – Toby
“That’s good for my tummy but the other ones aren’t” – Harry F
“I like the chocolate one” – Sterling
We asked the children which milk they liked best.
“I like chocolate best” – Caitlyn
“Rice milk was yucky” – Nathan

It was interesting watching the children’s reactions to the different flavours, experiencing something new. Next week we would like to extend on this further by trying some different types of cheeses. If your child has a favourite type of cheese or you’ve got something a bit different to taste, please send it in with your child next week.

Enjoy your weekend!

Best wishes,

Kerry, Emily, Rosalie, Jess and Nicole
