In our Morning
Meetings we have been exploring our PYP Unit of Inquiry—
Transdisciplinary Theme: How we Express Ourselves
Central Idea: We can express ourselves in hundreds of different ways.
This also ties in with the foundation stage of the
national Keeping Safe curriculum.
We have begun by
investigating
-
Feelings and how we
express them
- How we can tell
what we (and other people) are feeling, or what emotions are being experienced,
by looking closely at body and facial expressions.
We have utilised
children’s literature to support our investigation ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ by
Nick Bland and Trace Moroney’s books
‘Sad’ and ‘Happy’ , among others. with
some very interesting discoveries.
Cranky, grouchy
& mad looks like…….
When you get a
bumpy head—that means you’re cranky - Makara
You
have to stick out your head and do this (scrunch up your features) - James
If
you’re happy, how do you show it?
Smile! - Winnie
Surprised
looks like…. see Maiya’s photo!!
When
you’re sad…… Amelia - You just do
this (see photo), and you are just sad
On
one of our trips to the Preparatory School we saw a sign and followed the arrow to the
Health Centre. One of our amazing nurses, Anna very kindly invited us into the
Health Centre to have a look inside….
She shared with us that sometimes the Boarders have to stay in the
little hospital, and she showed us the wheelchair, crutches and other resources
to support the big boys if they need it!
We told Anna that we know all about trying to stay healthy.
We wash our
hands! - Annabelle
We cough and
sneeze into our elbow - Sienna S
Anna,
and Ava's mum Anita, both come down to the ELC if we need additional
support or expertise when caring for our
most important people!
