Edgerley

Dear Parents,

Welcome to week one of 2018. We hope you all had a wonderfully happy Christmas and holiday break over the summer. We are so excited to be back and ready and enthusiastic to begin new investigations and experiences together.

We welcome a number of new students into the Edgerley Room this year and these boys deserve a huge congratulations on how well they have settled in to their new environment - it's as if they have always been there! Welcome to Sidney B, Isaac, Thomas B, Alex, Lewis , Iker , Thomas H, Billy W  and Lucas Z. We are delighted to have you join us.

This week the children have really enjoyed the outdoors with lots of sandpit play and large block construction. They have baked delicious cakes and muffins in the sandpit, and created a variety of interesting fabrications using the waffle and wooden blocks. Our vegetables and strawberries are continuing to require regular watering and maintenance in the hot weather, and are being well looked after by the children.

Our stories and songs have had an 'emotions' focus as we have begun to explore our feelings. Some of the children have shown how various emotions look on faces at our light table using a variety of mixed objects such as keys, shells and pasta. We read 'Andrew's Angry Words' by Dorothea Lachner and realised that when we are angry we can make others angry, as bad moods can have a ripple effect on the people around us. This was an important lesson about how our words can affect others. Following this, some of the children shared what makes them angry:

When my friends take my toys - Isaac S
When someone messes my game up - Lucas
When my sister's annoy me - Isaac C
When Maeve scratches me - Ed
When bad guys kill people - Brian
When Mum tells me off - Ned

We will continue exploring further emotions throughout the term.

With best wishes,
Emma, Mel and Chris
