Dear
Angwin families and friends,
Our
holiday program went off with a great start from the recent long weekend. While
some of our peers are off on holidays, we ventured into some fun learning
activities in and out of the classroom. We continued our inquiry into volcanoes
by creating miniature models using recyclable resources and art and craft
materials. This experience gave the children opportunities to enhance their
fine motor skills through gluing, brushing and even scrunching and tearing
pieces of crepe and cellophane paper. Working under a soft light glow with
quiet relaxing music has also been a great space for children working quietly
individually or in small groups.
My
volcano has a special green liquid coming from the inside- Joshua D.
There’s
gonna be lots of magma inside and then come out as lava when I’m finished with
it-Lochlann
See
this straw here? It’s lava shooting out and its gonna land on somebody- William
The
black stuff around the volcano is ash coming out when the volcano is about to
explode!- Daniel B
To
further enrich the children’s exploration of this interest, we also set up an
overhead projector to create prehistoric scenes with dinosaurs and volcano back
drops. As the children work out how the light changes with the machine, they
started making their own “movies” with reference to the movie ‘Land Before Time
II’ that we watched last Wednesday. This became a great topic of discussion as
the children shared about their favourite characters.
Chomper!He
is a T-Rex from the egg!- James
Duckie.
She says things three times and says yup yup yup a lot.- Walter
The
egg stealers- Fred
I
like Spike cause he loves mud bath like me - Daniel B
I
like Spike too!- Felix
We
have taken advantage of the good weather by venturing into the oval for races
and circle games. We’ve taken notice of the different kinds of clouds in the
sky and making descriptions of them and have been visiting the trees where the
rainbow lorikeets are. Last Thursday, Ashton brought in his guinea pig Gerry
and the children were thrilled to feel how fluffy and soft he was and lucky to
have his warm cuddles. Please send in a photo of your family’s pet for our
special sharing next week.
All
in all it as been a great week in the Angwin Room and we are hoping for the
same next week.
