Mead

Dear Mead Room families and friends,

Observing the Mead Room chicks hatch, grow and change has been the most amazing learning journey!  We have relished the opportunity to be up close and personal with them!

Over the weekend they went for a sleep over at Miss Boler’s house and by the time they came back we noticed they weren’t little, fluffy chicks anymore….. they had grown a few actual feathers.

Their necks were getting longer (Max),

Their feet were bigger (Elsie),

Their bones were bigger (Quinn) and by the end of the week they were getting stronger (Harry) and even stretching out their wings and flapping them madly!

When we transferred them to the ‘Brooder’ box we noticed a light at one end;

Cody – That’s to make the chickies warm

Elsie – So they can see!

The children came to understand that like human babies, our chicks needed someone to care for them. So with much empathy they fed them and gave them clean water and we changed their bedding every day. But today it was time to say goodbye to some of our chicks.  We are keeping two little girls, and the Mattingley Room are keeping two as well, to eventually add to our brood outside.  For now we will keep all four of them in the Mead Room to grow and change together.

Take care of each other.
