Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,

What an exciting week we have had in the Mattingley classroom  room this week! We have been buzzing with excitement since the arrival of our little clutch of chicken eggs at the start of the week.

When we arrived at ELC on Tuesday morning we noticed something amazing had happened, one of our little chicks  had hatched from it's egg. Taking a closer look at the other eggs in the incubator, the children and some parents noticed some of them had little beak holes in them. Wednesday morning when we arrived at ELC we has seven little chicks waiting to great us. It was funny watching them fighting for space under the heat lamp and snuggling together to keep warm.

Wednesday afternoon we were able to witness a chick hatching out of it's egg. It was an amazing experience which the children were all very excited to watch.

The children have all been extremely engaged in the learning journey we have been on with the chickens, and are looking forward to carefully holding them next week when they are a little bit bigger. After many discussions we have created a list of rules that we will need to follow when watching or holding the chickens to keep them safe. Please  make sure you take special care of our chicks if you wish to take a closer look at the end of the day.

We will have the chicks in the classroom until the end of next week when the company Living Eggs will come back to collect them. They did mention that families are able to purchase these chickens to take home, costing $2 each. This money goes towards charity. Let me know if this is something that you are interested in doing.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Kimberley and Liana
