Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Parents,

This week we have enjoyed looking more closely at dinosaurs and their attributes, following on from our interest during the school holidays program. We observed small models and pointed out the differences and similarities and even posed theories about why some dinosaurs might have spikes, frills or horns. We wondered if their attributes helped dinosaurs eat certain types of food or live in certain types of places. We hope to tie these observations to our work on habitats last term. We illustrated pictures of dinosaurs in our illustration books and were encouraged to take a second look to add further details. At the making table children took this one step further and created 3D models. Grace’s bag of recycled bottle tops came in very handy for dinosaur eyes!

We have begun to add our portraits to the wall above the lockers and next week we will begin to think about the things that make us different and special as well, although we don’t suppose they will be horns and spikes!

Further encouraged by Charlie P we have begun to construct our own calendar and have been busy writing the names of the months. We are excited to add our photos to the months of our birthdays. We were pleased to receive a few responses about special cultural celebrations to add to our calendar and are planning to help Yash celebrate Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi next week. Although this celebration falls on Monday we are looking forward to finding out much more about it all next week. Rakhi is a celebration about the bond between sisters and bothers and involves the exchange of gifts and special bracelets. Although it is usually sisters who give bracelets and brothers who give special gifts we have enthusiastically decided to make bracelets for all our siblings.

If you haven’t returned you information sheet where you tell us about your child’s siblings it would be great if we could have this information for next week as we would hate any brother or sisters to miss out.

Our bower bird bowers are slowly beginning to take shape and we are still on the look out for sticks to use as part of our work.

We hope you have a lovely weekend

Mel and Emma
