Dear Mead Room families and friends,
We are still intrigued with the numbers
that surround us in our environment!
During our everyday interactions the
Mead Room children have many opportunities to connect with numeracy. With our ever growing awareness, and
appreciation, of number we are continuing to identify numerals, connect number
names and numerals to the quantities they represent and use the natural
materials for 1 to 1 correspondence. We were ecstatic to discover numerals all
over the school and ELC. We went for a number walk and found …..
Jimmy – “That’s number 10!”
Quinn – “8”
Harry – “4”
Elsie – “I can see more numbers!”, pointing
to Mrs Prest’s wrist watch.
We found many numbers on a meter on the
way to PE, Harvey and Ronnie attempted to call them out but there were a few
too many ‘Number Detectives’ in the way! And Ming Ming observed numerals on the
front door of the ELC too!
We are engaged in an investigation of 2D
and 3D shapes, and the children have linked our numeracy experiences with shape,
transferring and adapting what they have learned from one context to another
(EYLF Outcome 4).
Elsie – “I made a triangle - 3 sides”
Rupert – “Rectangle – 4!”
Hamish and Christian V found triangles
at afternoon tea too!!
Thank you to all of our wonderful
Grandies for attending our ‘Grandies Day’ celebration event on Tuesday. We love welcoming all of our marvellous
grandparents and great grandparents to our ELC.
Finally, some very exciting news to
share with our ELC community, Hamish Hewitt is now a big brother! The Hewitt family welcomed Arabella Olivia to
the world last week. Congratulations to
Jon and Lucy, and from all accounts
Hamish has taken to the new responsibilities of being a big brother with
aplomb!
Have a terrific weekend.
