Dear Edgerley Parents,
Is it possible that the weeks keep getting busier!?? We
have three extra special events this week, in addition to the regular hive of
activity. On Monday we welcomed Zara’s mother and Grandmother, Laura, and
Shirley, who came in to do some cultural sharing with us. Shirley was born in
Kenya and had some wonderful stories to share with the children about growing
up in Africa in the bush, amongst elephants, lions, giraffes and zebra, where
she spent a lot of time on her grandfather’s game park. Shirley taught the
Edgerley children a song commonly sung by children in Africa. We also got to
sample some delicious African food called boervorst (sausage) and koeksisters
(a type of honey donut). A huge thank you to Shirley (and Laura) for educating
us in such an interactive and enjoyable manner. It’s amazing that people around
the world can lead such diverse lives!
Tuesday was our very special annual ELC Grandies Day. We
were so excited to welcome our Grandies into the ELC and to spend our time with
them. We began with a concert where we entertained them with some songs. We
then moved between our classroom, the outdoor environment and the workshop
where we spent precious time participating in a variety of activities and
showing our Grandies what we do on a regular basis in our ELC environment. As
the Grandies went off for morning tea in the courtyard cafe we went outside and
enjoyed a picnic of assorted sandwiches and shared our exceptional memories of
the event with our friends.
On Thursday we are heading to the Art Gallery for an
excursion to explore stories told through art by artists. This term the
children have been very interested in the stories told by Henri Rousseau,
Sidney Nolan and Vincent Van Gogh in their paintings and have created many of
their own wonderful artworks. We are also lucky enough to be able to
participate in a marionette making workshop as part of the current Rodin
sculptural exhibition at the gallery.
Best wishes,
Emma, Mel and Cris
