Dear Parents,
“Ni Men Hao” (Hello!)
In
Chinese classes this term, we have been focusing on singing lots of Chinese
nursery rhymes and we have learned fruit names through the very hungry mao mao
chong (caterpillar).
We have been practising the Chinese
version of ‘Twinkle twinkle little star’ and 'Two tigers' (Tone: Brother John).
Children have been enjoying practising their singing with me.
The very hungry
caterpillar and the very hungry piggy have been really popular among the
children too. We gave out little toy caterpillars and asked children to feed
their caterpillars with the toy fruits. They learnt the fruits’ name very fast
as they were highly engaged in the game. We also watched ‘The three little
piggies’ story in Chinese and learnt the song called ‘Who is scared of the big
bad wolf’.
Children can greet me in Chinese
confidently and they can say ‘ni hao’, ‘zai jian’ when they see me in the ELC.
Other short phrase like ‘Fei’ (fly), ‘Pao’(run), ‘Tiao’ (tiao), ‘Zou’(walk)
have been reviewed through different stories and games.
We also made ‘jiao zi’ (dumplings)
with students as a culture experience and they enjoyed it so much. It was so
lovely to see them use their fine motor skills to finish various difficult
tasks. They also loved sharing dumplings with their classmates and telling each
other their own experience of visiting Chinatown.
If your children want to watch some
Chinese songs and videos on Youtube, you can search those names to help them
find the one that he/she likes:
‘liang zhi lao hu’ –Two tigers
‘xiao xing xing’—Twinkle twinkle
little star
‘wo de peng you zai na li’—Where
are my friends
‘san zhi xiao zhu’ – Three little
pigs
‘shen ti ge’ – Body parts song
‘Chinese zodiac animal race’
Best wishes,
from Wenting
