Dear Wilkins families and friends,
A few weeks ago we discovered some children using the wooden
blocks as hammers and this has sparked an investigation in to all types of
different hammers. Over the last fortnight we have been using real hammers and
nails, wood and fabric to create a group piece of woodwork with the Langley
children - make sure you check it out, displayed outside our classroom. This
week we have been using the Tap Tap hammer set inside with little drawing pins.
This has been a hive of activity with the children creating different pictures,
talking to each other about what they are doing and working individually and in
small groups. Many of the children have been spending long periods of time at
this experience and revisit it over the course of the day. We are looking
forward to extending this interest further in the future, hopefully with a
visit to the Senior School woodwork room.
This week has also seen us further investigate what's on the
inside of our bodies, creating our own skeletons, exploring shapes at the play
dough table, using different art mediums to create pieces of art work, role
playing in small groups in the doctors surgery, developing our gross motor
skills through climbing and balancing and building using different construction
sets.
Wishing you all the best for the long weekend. See you all next
week.
