Dear Angwin Parents and Friends,
We have been to the moon and back in our room this week! Our
explorations into space have taken us to discover more about the solar system
and the order of the planets.. the children have even touched on “Is the sun a
star or a planet?”
Here is some of the discussion that was shared….
Harrison: It’s
Earth… people live on Earth!
Austin: Mars has…
dark brown spots.
Jack: Pluto is
the furthest away and it’s thesmallest.. They don’t call it a planet anymore.
Isaac: Its’ spin
ahs been sacrificed!
Harry BB: I got
this one… Neptune!
Romesh: Here’s
the moon… it has a cow that jumped over it!
Oliver: Venus has
lots of green and white.
There has also been a deep sea diver in our midst… looking
for sharks! Our friend Sidney has been encouraging his friends to help find
other sharks deep in the ocean. He has made an air tank, snorkel, underwater
camera and a helmet.
There has been great excitement as we have been exploring
the sound “t” as we have set up a tinkering table with tools! The children have
been helping to deconstruct a printer, using screwdrivers and pliers…. Lots of
opportunities for co-operative learning….
Poppy: Wow! Look
at this!
Harry BB: We
really need tweezers!
Oliver: They’re
not tweezers… they’re pliers! Can I have a flat edge screwdriver Harry?
Poppy: I’m trying
to get the top off!
Denver: I want
that little screwdriver!
Erin: I really
want a turn…
Denver: I’m
trying to pull out this screw!
Oliver: Teddy put
that in this bowl… I found a secret door and I can’t open it….
Denver: I got it
out!
Harry BB: This is
going to take ages… We’re going to handle this all by ourselves!
Lots of problem solving and determination has been exhibited
in our room this week…. It is reinforcing our ways of using our words to
express how we feel and to help us solve problems. What wonderful opportunities
for rich and co-operative learning!
Kind Regards,
Pip and Coral
