Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families and friends,
What a wonderful week we have had this week. The weather has been beautiful, and much to the children’s delight we have had the water fountain on as much as possible. This has given the children many opportunities to enhance their physical, cognitive and social skills. There was lots of turn taking and negotiating as they waited to fill their buckets up with water. They were experimenting with mathematic concepts such as greater then and less then, empty and full as they worked with the water. It was beautiful to hear their laughter and watch their wonder as they experimented with different ways to carry the water back to the sandpit as well as to the garden to give the plants a much needed drink.
We are very excited to announce that we have purple snow at Prince Alfred College!
After sharing the beautiful story ‘Purple Snow’ written by Eric Lobbecke, we have been checking the magnificent Jacaranda tree behind the main building. For weeks now we have been anticipating ‘purple snow’, but we have found none. Harry Hoffmann has been especially excited, asking daily if we could go and check the Jacaranda tree. To our excitement we found ‘purple snow’ on Wednesday on our way to our Library lesson. Next week we are looking forward to taking a closer look, (we had to keep our distance because bees seem to love our ‘purple snow’ as much as we do) to collect some of the blossoms to create ‘purple snow’ artwork in the classroom. If you would like to share this beautiful story with your child at ELC you will find it on display on the book shelf.

We would like to wish Ashlynn a very happy 4th birthday. We had a lovely afternoon celebrating with Ashlynn, making pancakes and sharing them together. We think Ashlynn must help out a lot at home with the cooking, she was very good at cracking the eggs and stirring the mixture.
Miss Bowden is back!! Next Wednesday. We are looking forward to seeing her and hearing all about her time spent at Seymour. We have missed her very much!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,
Kimberley and Rosalie
