Dear Angwin families and friends,
Our week has been heavily focused on culture and celebration as
Sujay, Sahil and Arwyn shared with us their understandings, knowledge and
experience of Diwali Festival. We would like to thank the
children's parents for coming and sharing with us the history behind this
celebration and the important role it plays in the Hindu and other cultures.
"I'm wearing my special traditional clothes for this
festival" shared Sujay
"It's called a Kurta" informed Sahil
The children were fascinated listening to the story of Rama and
Sita and how the people of India lit candles in order to light the their paths
all the way back to the palace.
"There were no lights then, and there was no moon so they had
to use candles" explained Arwyn
Ishita, (Arwyn's mum) told the children about the battle between
Ram and Ravan, explaining that Diwali is a celebration of good over evil and
not just a Festival of Lights.
"Oh, I like that one better" said Samuel
The children were so keen to ask questions and share their
thoughts about the battle, alongside their Year 3 buddies.
"When there was war, did they use TNT?" asked Leon
"Is this a real story?" wondered Joe M
"Did Ram live better he got dead?" asked Harvey
The children's curiosity and the desire to gain new information
was so pleasing to hear. Ishita also showed the children how to use rangoli
tins and templates to create patterns on the floor and once the children got
started, there was just no way to stop them. We are sure you couldn't have
missed their works of art as you walked into our ELC. Splashes of bright
colours, the excitement of making them and sharing Arwyn's birthday cake was
just an amazing way to wrapping that day.
“We are making a rangoli world” said Oscar
“Yeah, we are going to do it over the whole city!” enthused Arwyn
May the blessings of Diwali be with you and your families.
Love the Angwin Team
