Mead

What a whirlwind of a week we have had in the Mead Room.

This week we have been making Gingerbread Men – Numeracy, Literacy and Science skills in abundance!!  We followed a recipe and instructions, measuring out, weighing, stirring and mixing.  The children were able to explore and observe the changing state of materials and marvel as the bowl of unrelated ingredients came together to form a sticky then smooth and squishy ball of dough!  The cooking process added another change altogether!

On Tuesday afternoon the children explored light and shadow.  They observed their shadows in the outdoor environment, moving their bodies to experiment where the best shadows could be created.

Our Christmas inquiry for Show and Share is coming to a close and has revealed beautiful family traditions, fun times and the magic of this special time of year.
Scarlet – My Daddy put the star up on the Christmas tree. My Mummy and Daddy put some fairies up to make it beautiful, they change colours. Nanna comes to my home, Mummy’s mum.
Lucas – I get very excited when I put decorations on the Christmas tree, because Christmas is my favourite day! We have Christmas breakfast, not a normal breakfast.
Spencer – The men came and the star pointed the way.  I went to Canada.  My Dad and Mum went skiing and we meet at the bottom and we throw snowballs.  I want to go back again.

We hope you all enjoyed the Nativity performance!
Happy Birthday to Benjamin Gavin – you are now 4!

Happy weekend fun to you all!

Nativity

What a wonderful afternoon!

Thankyou so much for embracing our new format. We are thrilled so many of you were able to come to our special Christmas Nativity on Thursday afternoon. We have been practicing and rehearsing since the beginning of term and are so happy to be able to finally share it with you! We loved performing and sharing the story of the first Christmas and we will probably still be singing these songs all the way to Christmas!!

We would particularly like to thank Mrs Bell, our piano playing whiz with the twinkly fingers, all of the Housekeeping and Catering staff for lugging things around for us and organising our post Nativity treat.

We hope you all had as much fun as we did!

Cooper

Dear Cooper families,

Well done to all the Cooper children on their lovely singing at our Nativity performance, everyone did a fantastic job. We were all extremely excited leading up to the day and couldn’t wait to show our families they songs we had been practicing all term.

This week in our classroom we have been experimenting with ink paintings. The children used teat pipettes to suck up the ink from the pots and squirt out onto the paper. We started this learning experience on the tables but we noticed that too much ink stayed on our paper so we moved to the painting easels. Moving to the easels made the ink “run down” and created amazing marks and patterns on the paper.  The children also discovered that they could mix the ink together on the paper to create new colours.

Next week is the last week of the school term. During the holidays Miss C will be in the classroom working with another educator in the Cooper room.

To wrap up the school term and celebrate Christmas we will be having a small class party on Thursday the 3rd of December at 2:30pm in the Cooper room. A light afternoon tea will be provided. All children and parents are welcome to join us, however, if it is not your child’s usual day you will need to stay with your child for the party.
We hope that you have a lovely weekend.
Love Miss Gilbert and Miss C

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins families and friends,

What a delightful and eventful week we have had in the Wilkins room.

This week we have enjoyed talking about Christmas and what our families do at this special time. We have also loved decorating and creating our master pieces for our Christmas crafts. We have been busy at the craft table with glue, paper, pictures and ball balls for our Christmas trees.

All term we have been VERY interested in our favourite book ‘Sticky Jam’. Sticky Jam tells us the story of how sugar is harvested and how it ends up in the shop as jam at the end. To follow on with the book, Miss Sarah, Mrs Nicole and Mrs Karla helped our Wilkins friends make some jam sandwiches. These were very yummy!

Can we also say a big thank you to everyone who came and watched our nativity performance. What a wonderful afternoon we all had. Thank you to the Wilkins room also! Everyone did an amazing job singing so beautifully!

We hope you all have a safe and wonderful weekend, we look forward to seeing you next week!

Love Miss Sarah, Mrs Karla, Mrs Nicole and Miss Ellen xxx

Edgerley

Dear Families,

It's been a very Christmas orientated week in the Edgerley Room. The children have been busy rehearsing for the Nativity on Thursday and practicing their songs. They decorated invitations for Mr Andary and Mr Fenner and delivered them to their offices and luckily they are free on Thursday to attend!

At our easels there have been some wonderful green and red Christmas paintings created with tinsel and other collage materials. The children have also been making Christmas cards for loved ones and putting special messages inside, and rolling and cutting out salt dough Christmas decorations.

For Show and Tell we have been looking at a Christmas story. These have come in many varieties - from books from home, to voice recordings, to children telling their story in person. We are continuing to create our own Edgerley advent calendar with each day represented by a number and decorated by the children. I wonder what surprises will be inside each box?

We thought we would share one of the children's story's with you:

"There once was a angel. Mary have a baby and his name was Jesus. That was her baby. Joseph was walking. They hop on a donkey and walk to Bethlehem. They knock on all the doors and can't stay. There was only a stable. Joseph was very tired. They follow that star. That's where Jesus was born. The wise men come and give baby Jesus the presents. The End." - Andrei

Best wishes,

Emma M, Emma G and Ty

Angwin

Dear Angwin Parents and Friends,

We are continuing to enjoy preparations for this week’s Nativity Concert and the end of the term graduation. Amongst all the rehearsals and busyness, we managed to find time to make some ginger bread biscuits. This was inspired by the Christmas cooking in the home corner, and greatly enjoyed by the Tuesday children. As we mixed, stirred and ate, we also chatted about the meaning of Christmas and the story of the first Christmas.

We hope you enjoyed our concert!

Can you please let us know when your child’s last day will be so we can finalise staffing.

Thank you,
Angwin Team

Chapple

Wow! What a week. Could the children get any more excited for the Nativity? We hope you enjoyed the new format, I am sure you can appreciate how big a task it is and how the children pulled it off so wonderfully. If you have any outstanding items of costume, could you please return them so we can put them away for next year!

We still managed to have some fun in the class as well with Santa’s workshop still hammering away and we even produced our own wrapping paper.

Angus and Rupert explained to the whole class the detail of their “animal jail.”

Angwin

In Angwin we have been talking about change all year as part of our PYP unit. We have talked about life cycles, change over time, change in physical states and even change within ourselves. We have noticed that as you get older your teeth can become wobbly… change is in the air!!

So we were very lucky to have Rachel’s Mum come and visit us to talk about teeth. And we were very happy that Rachel brought her little brother with her, what a cute visitor to Angwin room.

We would like to thank Mrs Chisholm for visiting us and telling us more about our teeth.

Angwin

Dear Angwin Parents and Friends,

With our Nativity Concert just around the corner we have begun to discuss the story of the first Christmas and what Christmas symbols mean to us. In particular we have explored the meaning of the star and we have begun making our own stockings to hang by the fire place.

What reminds us it’s Christmas time?

‘Reindeers and decorations.’ Marcos
‘Christmas trees and presents cause when you open the presents you get toys and books.’ Anthony
‘Father Christmas and Mrs Father Christmas because they’re like lots of books of Christmas.’ Samuel
‘You need a star up the top of the tree.’ Cameron
‘First you got to get your list of presents before you get your presents and Santa will make it.’ Sebastian
‘The star is so Santa knows where the tree is and he can put the presents here.’ Lucille
‘Angels are like stars so people can follow them to go to baby Jesus.’ Arwyn

It is always lovely to hear the children’s thoughts about Christmas and help them to further understand the meaning behind this celebration.

Langley

Dear Langley Families,
This week the children had so much fun with the water and sand. Oscar and Paxton realised that there was something interesting that was happening to the run off of the water, Chloe soon joined in as we started to talk about what was occurring. The children were amazed at how the water was being collected in little ponds, filling up and then spilling over and running into the next pool. Miss Renee explained that it was a water catchment. Chloe asked “What is a water catchment Miss Renee?” and she continued to explain what a water catchment is.
We painted some beautiful and colourful art pieces as a follow on from Marcel’s interest with the feather last week, they look nice and bright and very eye catching.
It is not long until the Nativity and we have been practicing our songs every day. ‘Jingle bells’ and ‘twinkle, twinkle little star’
We look forward to seeing you from the stage…

IF YOUR CHILD IS PARTICIPATING IN OUR NATIVITY PREFORMANCE, PLEASE ENSURE THEY HAVE PACKED OR ARRIVE IN DENIM BOTTOMS NEXT THURSDAY (26th NOVEMBER)
