Dear Families,

 

This week we have looked at oral storytelling and the children had great fun re-enacting “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.” There was much giggling at our actors “clip clopping” over the bridge. This week also saw the arrival of our fish which has caused much excitement. The children decided on the names- “Fish” and “Chips”. Some of the children started making drawings to make the fish feel at home.

 

Toby: We can put food in here.

Alex F: This is a picture of seaweed so the fish think it is real.

Geordie: I will stick it on.

 

Have a great break and if you get chance can you restock the clothes bags as some of children seem to have grown and some have a habit of finding the winter mud.

Wilkins

Dear families,

We can't believe that term 2 is over already! What a wonderful term we have had with the children. This week, we have loved caring for and watching the hopping mice in our classroom. We have been observing them building shelter out of the straw, feeding and drinking from the water bottle.

We have also continued our art explorations this week. We have introduced boxes to our collage area and have been creating all different sorts of wonderful things. We also braved the weather and collected coloured autumn leaves which we have used to create leaf art paintings.

Try and stay warm over this very cold, wet and windy weekend!

Holiday Information

Dear Three and four year old families,

 

As part of the holiday program, on Thursday the children are invited to come dressed as a prince, princess or knight as the children have been interested in castles during our recent  unit of inquiry. Can't wait to see your outfit.

Susan Lock - Long Service Leave

Dear Parents,

 

As the Term draws to a close we are saying farewell to Mrs Susan Lock as she goes on 6 months long service leave. Susan has taught at the school for 19 years and has offered the most dedicated and inspiring classroom environments for the children in her care. Although she will be greatly missed, we wish her a wonderful and well deserved holiday.

Langley

Dear families and friends of the Langley room,

 This week we have continued to explore creatures that live underwater. We made a colourful school of fish mural using our hand prints, and turned them into fish by gluing googly eyes on them. We also had a rich discussion about how to care for our sea creatures by not polluting our water ways.

Also this week, we have been investigating the stick and spiny leaf insects in the terrarium. Children have enjoyed finding and watching these fascinating insects, which were hanging from the branches and moving around on the leaves. Some children were extra brave and even had a little hold of a spiny leaf insect.

Red Nose Day - Friday 27th June

Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to celebrating a great cause for SIDS for KIDS which is Red Nose Day! We are excited for the children to dress up in anything red - and even a red nose if you have one! Bring along with you a gold coin donation which will be located at the front desk.

Dear Parents and Families,

We have had a wonderful week together, planning and preparing for our Graduation next week. Our classroom is starting to look a little bare and different as we get ready to farewell some friends to mid year Reception and others will be moving onto the Angwin Room.

Our Pizzeria has been a huge hit this week! The children have been so involved, taking orders, customers paying, chefs baking. Everyone has wanted a turn in this Pizza shop!

Amazing co-operative block building has continued to be such an important part of our inside learning time. 

Sand has continued to dominate our outside play. The children have worked together to create some amazing machines and kitchens.

We enjoyed seeing the fire engine come on Monday too.

We have farewelled our reading buddies and Year 3 buddies but it is good to know that there will be lots of big boys ready to help the Mid Year Receptions when it is play time!

Looking forward to our week of celebrations next week… the shared afternoon tea on Wednesday and our Graduation on Thursday at 11am.

Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Families and friends,​

 

This week we have been lucky enough to have Bella Green, a year 10 student from Glenunga International High School, doing her work experience. The children have loved having her in the classroom and she has been learning a lot from us, especially all about frogs. 

 

Speaking about frogs one of our little tadpoles has out grown his tail and has become frog. The children have been watching him swim closely and have begun to notice the differences in him now.

On Tuesday we started a friendship that Miss White from the Cooper room gave us. His name is Herman and he is a sourdough cake starter. He needs to sit on our bench top for 10 days without a lid, covered with a tea towel.  We will need to follow the instructions that he came with closely because if he stops bubbling then he is no good. We will be cooking our friendship cake next Thursday, and we will make sure that all the children get a piece. Please feel free to come and have a look at Herman. He is in the green bowl on the bench in the classroom. We are all very excited to watch him grow over the next week. Thank you Miss White for passing your friendship cake on to us, we will make sure we take good care of him. ​

Dear Parents and Friends of the Cooper Room

 

We started this week with a very special visit from the Beulah Park fire station. The boys had a wonderful time looking at all the interesting pieces of equipment that the fire fighters use to help them. The boys also got to climb into the big truck and take a seat in the back ready to head off! Even though the weather was not very clear we didn’t miss the opportunity to also all have a chance to squirt the fire hose and clean one of the school fences. The children took this role very confidently and enjoyed spraying the water through the high powered hose. We also had an opportunity to look at all the fire safety clothing the fire fighters wear to keep themselves safe while putting out fires and checking buildings. Finally we talked about  the importance of children knowing to ring 000 in an emergency and having a family fire plan. We practised “stop, drop and roll” to put out a flame and “get down low and go, go ,go” to crawl out of a smoke filled room. Although discussed in a fun way it is a very important message and we encourage all families to reinforce these protective behaviours at home. Most importantly to make sure all children can reach the phone or get out of their house in an emergency. The fire-fighters asked that all children know their address and house number in the case of an emergency.

Dear Mead families and friends,

We have had such a busy week! 

We explored 2D shapes.
We investigated minibeasts and their habitats.
We made cloud dough.
We sorted, categorised and compared.
We talked about our families and celebrated our family heritage with our peers.
We stretched lycra.
We prepared food.
We shared, took turns, climbed, balanced and used our imaginations.
We created patterns, made butterflies and built amazing structures in the block corner….. all before lunch!!!

Dear Chapple Families,

Our busy week started off with a visit from the Fire Brigade. They taught us all about what to do if we saw a fire and what we could do to get out safely. We also had chance to use the hose from the fire engine and squirt water in the car park.

We also started our maths investigation into our favourite pet and made a great graph on the carpet.

 

Jess from The Hutt St Centre came to the Centre this week to collect the cheque for $143. The children had a cupcake sale to help the homeless of Adelaide following a discussion on homes in class. They hoped to raise $70 to buy a swag and sleeping bag. Amazingly they doubled their target. Thanks again to all the parents for their support.

Don’t forget the Literacy Program Meeting this Wednesday 25^th June at 4pm.

Wilkins

 

Dear families,

We have loved creating collages this week in the Wilkins room. We have been using a range of different recycled and art materials, scissors, glue and markers to create our masterpieces. The children have been working individually on small projects and collaboratively on larger pieces of work. This has been a wonderful way to explore our creativity as well as develop our fine motor control, concentration and social skills as we share resources and create joint pieces of artwork.

We have also had some keen football players during our outside time. We have been kicking and handballing the football to each other in pairs and small groups. We are looking forward to exploring some more ball skills next week.

Impetigo (school sores)

Dear families,

Please be aware that we have had one confirmed case of School Sores in the ELC. Please keep an eye out for any fluid filled sores on your child's skin. School sores need to be treated with antibiotics for 24 hours and covered with waterproof dressing before children can return to the centre.
