Cooper Room

Dear Cooper families and friends,

The holidays have begun and each day we have had an exciting experience for the children.  On Monday we designed and painted the children’s faces into jungle animals. After pretending to be animals inside we took the children into the outside area to run in the bushes before finishing with animal stories and games on our new Samsung tablets. Tuesday saw the children visit the hair dressers shop located in both the town square and Cooper Room, where a variety of coloured sprays, hair chalks and bands were supplied for the children to have new outrageous hair styles! Wednesday was dedicated to gardening and the children planted herbs, flowers and vegetables. Thank you to all the parents who provided gardening equipment and seeds for the children, we will all be nurturing them so they grow.

The movie was very successful on Thursday, and the children enjoyed fresh fruit and popcorn as they watched the Jungle Book. We voted on who was our favourite character in the movie and there was no suprise - Baloo was the firm favourite: who doesn't love a big blue bear? To end the week the children took part in the colour run. On your marks, get set..... so many beautiful colours running across the school oval. It was the Cooper children in blue, green, red and yellow showing how fast they can run. They ran in team colours and as a finale, all the children ran a 'rainbow' race. Each child was presented with a medal for great participation, lovely listening and top effort for joining in with smile!

Mead Room

Wow, what a fun first week of holidays we have had in the Mead class! On Monday we made animal masks and then went and hid in the garden. Miss Sarah and Miss Amelia got into their Jeep and went on safari, hoping to see some wildlife. Well, it proved to be their lucky day as they saw tigers, lions, a crocodile, a giraffe, and even a new hybrid species- the “tiger-lioness” ! Luckily they managed to get a photo of this magnificent creature, which they will consult Sir David Attenborough about when he is in town.

On Tuesday we had a Wacky Hair day. Some of us came to school with crazy hair, while others took advantage of the School Salon and came away with hairstyles that stole the show! We had spiky hair, blue hair, pink hair, gold hair, spotty hair, even hair with feathers in it!

On Wednesday we had a gardening day. We popped on our gloves, got our spades and rakes, and prepared the garden bed before we planted carrots, beetroot, mint, and freesia bulbs. We also planted broccoli seeds in individual pots for us to take home.

On Thursday we had a quiet, relaxing day and watched The Jungle Book and ate popcorn. There was even a tiger in the movie, but he wasn’t as ferocious as some of those seen on safari !

On Friday we came to school dressed in our favourite colours, and then took part in some Colour Runs. We all ran really fast in our colour groups, and then we did a big rainbow run. We all tried so hard that we were awarded gold medals in a medal ceremony that rivalled the Olympics. We wonder what fun things are in store for us next week !

Langley Room

What an exciting first week of holidays we have had.
The children really enjoyed having their hair done on Tuesday, followed by cooking on Wednesday and watching a movie on Thursday. Our biggest highlight was on Thursday when we went for a play on the tennis courts.When we were playing some of us noticed a fire truck parked in the driveway. Miss Emily went and asked the fire fighters if we could come and have a look at their truck.
We all watched as the fire fighters filled their hoses with water to make sure there weren't any holes in them. They then let all the water out and some of our shoes got wet !
One friendly fire fighter was kind enough  to show us some special torches they have. They flashed red and blue. The fire fighter told us that they put these special torches on the ground so that when its dark cars and people can see them.

Next week we have some more fantastic activities planned.

We are looking forward to our two week holiday activities.

16th- Tuesday is Wacky Hair Day! You’re welcome to send your child with the wackiest hair do of all using cool hair styles with gel, hair glitter etc. We will have a great time doing plaits, wearing wigs and much more.

17th- Wednesday. It’s Teddy Bears Picnic! We will take our lovely teddies to a lovely walk and morning tea picnic.

We will also do some cooking, dress ups and lots more fun activities in store.

Langley Room

The Langley children have had an exciting week exploring our unit of inquiry- Sustainablity.
We have been using recycled boxes, bottle caps, bottles and other items to create a structure using masking tape and glue to hold it together. We are going to continue to work on this activity over the holidays.

The children have also enjoyed caring for our vegetable garden which has started sprouting some
yummy spinach, playing in the home corner with the teddies and dolls and playing with the bugs
in the gooey mud.


On Tuesday week one of the holidays we will be having a wacky hair day in the Langley room. Staff will use hair chalk, glitter, gel, feathers and pipe cleaners to create a funky hair style on your child.
We will be using hair chalk as it is a non toxic option to coloured hair spray and will wash out. If your child has fair hair the chalk may last for several washes.

* If you don't want your child to participate in wacky hair day, please let Kerry, Nicole or Emily know.

On Friday 19th April we will be holding a casual day where we are encouraging children to wear their favourite colour. We will also be raising money for Make a Wish Foundation if you would like to make a donation.

The holiday program is now displayed in the Langley room above the lockers if you would like to have a read.

Dear Parents and Friends,

As the children’s interest in birds and watching birds with binoculars grew, we wanted to provide a socio-dramatic experience for the children where they could use the bird puppets to make the birds come alive. Using the tent became the highlight, complete with a campfire and of course some cottonwool marshmallows! Everyone was so excited! There was so much fun to be enjoyed!

Dear Cooper families and friends,

This week we had a very special visit from Dentist Melissa and Doctor Rabbit. They taught the children all about some times foods and every day foods. The children now know how many times to brush their teeth - two times a day, for two minutes. We all then had an examination and passed with sparkly teeth.

The children have been very musical this week with The Cooper Room Rock Band in crash, bang and booming style from day to night... no stopping these children. We even went outside for an Irish jig with home made head bands.

As the term has come to an end we welcome you to add these dates to your diary for the children over the holidays-

Friday 19th April - Colour Run Day
Please could your child come dressed in their favourite colour as we will be having running races around the outside area and each colour will be their team choice.

It has been an exciting week this week with the introduction of Raph the frog and his little tadpole brother. Izabella brought them in to share with us, until the frog loses its tale. We had a great time observing them both. We also drew pictures of them and discussed the changes we might see over the coming days.

Perhaps the frog has run off with the three blue marbles that are missing from the marble run? We look forward to their safe return soon! Have a wonderful break over the holidays. We are looking forward to our Unit of Inquiry next term, Paddock to Plate.

Dear Edgerley Families and Friends,

Our fabulous term has culminated in a really fun week which has seen us exploring dinosaurs in our very own ‘Dino Land’, practising being school children, writing letters using Magic Sand and trying to trick each other whilst playing ‘Tricky Patterns.’ Tricky Patterns is a game we made up using bottle tops, beans and confetti. The aim of the partner game is to trick your partner by creating a pattern and making 1 mistake for your partner to find. It’s so much fun, but make sure you close your eyes while your partner is creating the pattern so it’s a real surprise!

But the MOST EXCITING part of the week was when we started to get letters back from the people we wrote to about our concerns for the Environment. Here are some of the highlights:

Julia Gillard wrote back to many of our children, "Thank you so much for all your lovely drawings. I am glad you decided to write to me because protecting the environment is a very important issue." She talked about what the Government is currently doing and then encouraged us with, "We need people like you to do their fair share to save energy and cut emissions." How fabulous!

Mr Tutt, our Headmaster, wrote back to Bruno about the smoke from Clipsal. Mr Tutt actually checked with the Bureau of Meteorology about the weather conditions and found out, "...that the smoke from the Clipsal 500 would not get to Africa as it is too far away. However, air that is much polluted from factories would be spread all over the world and could foul the air in Africa in the long term. I imagine that the lion would not be happy about that."

The Mead Room Children responded to Rayan's letter about recycling. Angus said, "We already recycle. We recycle paper." James W told Rayan, "At home I 'cycle bottles. The garbage truck collects them and takes them to the 'dump." The Mead Children  were very pleased that Rayan was reminding them about recycling.

We hope we keep receiving responses back to our letters!

School Holdays

School Holidays commence on Monday 15th April and our Teachers will be on leave . The new term begins on Tuesday 30th April . To ensure we have sufficient staff over this period please mark the holiday sheets (with your child's class sign in sheets) if your child will be absent over this period. Please note that the uniform shop is also shut over the holidays if you are needing winter uniform for your child.( Remember that winter pants need to be moroon ) The shop re-opens on April 26th.

Langley Room

Wow what another busy week we have had in the Langley room! Inspired by the children’s bubble blowing in the water trough we have been creating bubble paintings this week. We mixed food colouring with detergent and water to create our masterpieces – it was a bit tricky because we had to remember to blow the bubbles and not suck!

We have also enjoyed role playing in our puppet theatre retelling familiar stories and songs and making up some of our own story lines. We have had a focus on developing our fine motor skills in our program this week, threading with beads and letters and wrapping wool around pine cones. Outside we have been exploring patterns in nature by examining different natural resources and using dried agapanthus flowers to create easel paintings. We look forward to examining other patterns in nature next week!

Mead Room

In the Mead Room this week the children have been fascinated to find where seeds come from and have done some exploring with different kinds of fruit. They have used their senses to taste, smell, touch and look at where the seeds are hiding.

We questioned the children by asking them what was inside the fruit…

Tom:I don’t know

Geordie: It might be kiwi fruit!

Charlie M: Seeds!

Tom: Dese ( these) little black bits. Look everyone!

Peter: I dink (think)… I had it at home… as he observed a passionfruit.

Tom: It’s hard. You can’t even squish it… it’s all slobbery.. Oh! It smells like mango!

Peter: I wanna ‘mell that

The children then ate some of the seeds.

Geordie: It crunchy.

Charlie A: Mmmmmmm

The teacher commented : Some seeds can be eaten and some can’t like apple seeds.

Dear Cooper room families,


We have been exploring our senses this week. We used our fingers, hands and arms to see what the substance in the white tray felt and smelt like...
Gabby – It feels like soap, I’m washing my hands like in the bathroom, I am just pretending I went to the bathroom and have to wash them.
Jackson – It’s sticky, it sticks on my hands, look it’s sticking.
Harry L - Smell my hands.

Spencer – It’s cool, yeah it’s really really fluffy and its up my arm too. It’s sticky, I might need some more cos I’m running out.

Jack – It feels like sand, it feels like soft sand.

Harry P – It’s pink icy poles that melted and we have to eat them up. We have pink icy poles after school on a Thursday.
Zac - It’s not ticklish, it feels like snow, it smells like snow, it’s blue snow but is white, it’s just foam.

It was challenging to work out exactly what it was but Hudson’s daddy gave us a clue as he did use it in the morning to make his face all smooth. Any one guess what it was?

On Friday we had a very exciting tennis lesson with the big PAC boys from year 10! We played stuck in the mud to warm up, we were able to run away from the big boys because we can run really fast. Then we used tennis rackets and they threw balls for us to hit, we had fun interacting with the older boys and gave them a high five and hand shake at the end to say thank you.

Dear Chapple Room Parents and Friends,
It's been a lovely, quiet week in Chapple Room. We haven't had a 'normal' week for quite a while, so it's been nice getting back to a more relaxed pace. This has allowed us to explore some maths consepts with more focus. We have been looking at the concepts of sorting, ordering and comparing. We have read many versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which has been a fun exploration in itself. Some children have used natural materials to order different lengths. They then named them according to what they thought was appropriate. We have also provided the wooden shapes for children to sort and use. This has allowed children to compare attributes to sort different shapes, and to experiment with mathematical language such as sort, same, different, sides, corners, big, small, tiny etc.
'There's a diamond and there's a square and there's one of these and one of these. They're the same. I've sorted the shapes.' Raphael

We also sorted through a big container of old socks to find matching pairs. The children enjoyed this challenge and then dressed themselves in the socks for fun.
