Cooper

Dear Cooper Room Families and Friends,
Over the past two weeks the Cooper Room have been busy bodies enjoying experiences from the Autumn Program. The children have been expressing their artistic style with rollers, sponges and potatoes.  We experimented in colour change by mixing our primary colours red and yellow to make the secondary colour orange.  We discovered that by mixing a pure colour with white increases lightness which is called a tint. The children were intrigued when they created light green by mixing dark green and white paint together and when they created lilac by mixing dark purple and white together.

We made some delicious scented spicy/chocolate play dough that the children have been rolling and cutting with to promote their fine motor and sensory skills.

Miss C decided to include Yoga into our program. We began our practice with our breath, concentrating on breathing in through our nose and out through our mouth, focussing on relaxing our mind and body. We practiced a few Yoga poses from Miss C’s Yoga and Fitness book, this has visuals of the poses to support the children’s postures. I was extremely impressed by the technique and flexibility the children had.  They really enjoyed the Yoga session, some of the children were quite familiar with Yoga and wanted to learn more about it so we decided to make it part of our daily regime.

We continued with box construction, exploring the school grounds, visits to the rainbow playground and Red Centre. The children have been escaping into the canopy I set up which hangs in the corner of the classroom. This creates a quiet space giving the children the opportunity to retreat to, think and relax. They love it!

We had a concert, grooved to cool music and played a variety of musical instruments, we had a ball! The children love being outdoors, running around and finding ways to play with water so we decided to have a ‘Washing Day’ and this involved washing Miss Bowden’s car. The children had their own bucket with soapy water and a cloth to wash with. This created a sense of responsibility, independence and pride in being helpful. It was a terrific job for them!

The holidays have been great fun and I look forward to seeing you all next week.
Happy Weekend!

Love Miss C x
