Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Families and Friends,

What a fun start we have had to term 3. The weather has been a little wet and cold, but we have managed to make the most of our time together, especially in the outdoor learning environment. We have seen many children working together, problem solving and negotiating skills as they played in the sandpit. There have been some fantastic roads, cakes and structures taking place.

We making a cake- Clem

It's a birthday cake for Clembo- Elsa

We are making a cake to eat- Anthony

It's a dump truck cake. See we burry the dump truck- Ari

I put the cement on- Dylan

We have also seen the children practicing their problem solving and negotiating skills as they work in small groups on the complex floor puzzles we have in our classroom. They are still working on being able to complete these puzzles, however we have seen them using many different strategies to work out where the pieces fit together.

These bits are a bit hard to find- Mack

This one here- Nathan

It's a snake. Start with head- Levi

This week the children have also been practicing their fine motor skills at both the play dough table, using scissors to cut the play dough and the 'tap tap' table. For some children the skills needed to be able to engage in these experiences have been little tricky, however they have all persevered in practicing.

One of our focuses this term will be to work on the children's fine motor skills, building up the muscle strength and skills needed to begin holding pencils in the tripod grip. The tripod grip allows the children to have better control over the pencil as they begin to make more meaningful marks and drawings.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Kimberley and Liana

Langley

Dear Langley Families,

Welcome to Term 3!

We especially welcome our new families to our room.  We have several new families slowly starting with us this Term.  So, if you see someone looking a little lost or unsure lend them a helping hand, I am sure they will appreciate it.

This week we have been changing the room around a little with the introduction of the overhead projector.  Here the children can explore through a different lens how the world works.  Currently on the overhead projector we have some coloured letters for the children to play with.

We have also started to change the yard a little.  We have created, with the help of the children, an obstacle course.

Miss K: What do you want the course to be like everyone?

Rupert: A big one

Cara: A climbing one

Scout: Jumping, jumping

Liam: Yeah jumping, jumping

Owen: Up and down

Ethan: A long one

As the week rolls on we are doing small things in preparation for our Book Week event. Please watch this space for information as the even gets closer.  We have started our love for books with the classic story by Michael Rosen, ‘We Are Going On a Bear Hunt’.  The children have all enjoyed listening and acting out the story.  Watch out !! You just might see a bear or two in the room!!

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Stay warm and dry.

Miss Kathy, Miss Amelia, Miss Nicole, Miss Tayla and Miss Georgia

Angwin

Dear Families and Friends,

We have had a super first week back! The children have loved sharing holiday adventures and sharing all the learning that has been happening here during the holidays too! Some of the children have started to record their ideas in their own books…

This week we have started investigations into reading, in preparation for our celebrations for Book Week in the middle of the term.

We have been asking the children what they think reading is all about. Here are some of their ideas….

Chloe: Reading is looking at the words, then saying them on all the pages

Ashton: I have a Minecraft book. We read the words and I look at the pictures. It helps me. Mummy reads the words to me.

Audrey: Reading is about hearing stories. Mummy reads to me each night. We take it in turns to read and turn the pages.

Ryan: I look at the words from the beginning and read every single one on the page. Then I look at the pictures.

Oliver: I use my mouth when I am reading. I look at the pictures with my eyes. I hear the words that my mum and dad read with my ears.

Daniel B: I start reading at the front o the book. I can read my own stories too!

Jason: First I look at the back then I look at the front for clues. Then I look for lots of clues onside when I see the pictures and the words.

We are looking forward to sharing our ideas with you as the term unfolds.

Kind Regards,

Pip and Coney

Mead

Dear Mead Room Families and Friends,

We are very excited to welcome new members to our Mead Room community – a clutch of eggs will be arriving on Monday….. we can’t wait!!

To support the myriad of ways life cycles can be investigated we are also talking about our own life cycle! This week we have been discussing what we already know about babies.. human babies!!

Ginger – Babies are tiny. You need to be careful with their neck.

Millie – Their skin is delicate.

Grace-Marie – Babies drink milk.

Tom – I went in my Mummy’s tummy.

Quinn – They come out of a tummy.

Harry – My Mum had a baby in her tummy, and it was me!

Charlie – They’re little.

Hamish – They cry because they want a feed. They drink milk.

Jack – Babies sleep, she cries for talking.

Bill – They say ‘goo goo ga ga’.

Are babies always babies? Or do they change?

Tom – They grow bigger and bigger.

Isla B – They do crawl.

Jimmy – Babies can grow into a boy…. I’m a boy!

Max – They grow up.

Zahli – They grow up into people.

This week we have been exploring our culinary expertise by way of making Gingerbread Men. The children immersed themselves in this literacy, numeracy and sensory experience!

Jimmy – We used a recipe to put the ingredients in.

Isla B – Butter in.

Alfie – Flour and sugar and butter.

Charlie – Sugar! Flour!

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins Families and Friends,

What a wonderful first week back from our school holidays!

We have been very busy exploring with our new friends in the classroom.

This week we have enjoyed manipulating the play-dough in the home corner to create all kinds of meals and foods.

Blake - "I making dinosaur cakes!"

Ariana - "I make chocolate cake too!"

We have also been very busy at our craft station this week. Our friends have been gluing, cutting and sticking with different kinds of materials including patty pans, feathers and foil. We will continue to create some amazing pieces of art work!

We also took our stick insect out of his cage for a little wonder around the classroom and to also show our new friends. Some children were very interested and others a little nervous about him wondering around the classroom. We spoke about the different kinds of food a stick insect would eat. The Wilkins children loved this!

Thank you for another fun filled week in the Wilkins classroom.

Have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.

Miss Jess, Miss Ellen, Miss Courtenay, Miss Melissa and Miss Chelsea.

Cooper

Dear Cooper families and friends,

What a great first week we have had in the Cooper room! I am so impressed with how the children have settled into the Cooper room.

The children have been very busy exploring their new classroom and outside environment and getting to know their new classmates. It is exciting to see the relationships that are developing and growing between the children, some with old and new friendships.  We are looking forward to discovering more about your interests and strengths over the next year.

We also had our very first trip to the Preparatory School for our PE session on Thursday morning. The children used their coordination skills and gross motor abilities throughout the three activities that were available – ball throwing, running races and a very tricky obstacle course.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend.

Love Miss Gilbert and Miss C
