Dear Mattingley
families and friends,
We have such as
fun packed start to our Spring holiday program. We are currently bugging out
over insects and bugs in and out of the classroom. Thank you to the families
who have shared with us photos of their children engaged in curiosity and
interest over creepy crawlies. We now have a growing wall of bugs to present
our current inquiry and learning journeys. Watch that space.
This week we
started using a webcam and computer screen as an alternate way to observe insects
in their environment. It always excites the children when they can use
technology to enhance their learning and a great way to incorporate modern
practices in learning about the natural world. We found that Tickles 1 (one
with one 5 legs) always manages to crawl away and camouflages in brown baskets
and leaves adding to the children's fascination while Tickles 2 likes to
just chill out. Make sure you take a look at our growing spiny leaf insects
every time you come in.
"Wow! That
phasmid is really big! I can see her eyes", exclaimed Ashton.
"It's
dancing like a leaf", added Lochlann.
'It's gonna grow
really big I think", said Walter.
We also planned
our smoothie making day prior to Sarah (Edward's mum) coming to our classroom.
We made suggestions of which fruits might be good for smoothie and voted for
the most and least popular.
A smoothie
is cold. Marcel
You cant make it
too hard or it will just a block of ice. Walter
You can't put in
the oven. Eloise
You mix things
up. Oliver
You use a machine
to make a smoothie. Lochlann
We have to put
broccoli in it. It will make it green. Paxton
I'd like some
beetroot and passion fruit in it. Walter
Some watermelon
in it please. Jason
And strawberry. Roy
I like banana. James
On Thursday,
with Sarah and Edward
sharing with us their favourite kitchen activity at home, we tried different
fruits and tried to drink a rainbow.
I really
like to have mango on mine. Walter
I don't like the
green one but I tried it. Fred
On Friday, Elina
and Paxton came
to share with us how to look after our baby teeth. We now know the germs in our mouth called plaque loved sugar and together they make a whole in our teeth.
However, we also know that the germs are scared of toothpaste and toothbrushes,
so we will scare the germs away with them in the morning and before bed time.
My teeth are
strong and healthy. Lachlan
Mine are too. Billy
The dentist fixed
my teeth. Roy
You look after
your teeth or it will go yucky. Eloise
The lovely weather
allowed us to enjoy a beautiful walk around the school, play some circle games
and go for bug hunting expeditions.
Thank you again
to Sarah and Elina for sharing your time and knowledge with us. If you have
some lovely expertise, knowledge and family activity that you'd like to share
with us, we would like to have you. Family involvement is an effective way of
building strong and confident self identities in children and an opportunity to
share family values, culture and practices within our little Mattingley family
and the ELC.
Till next week,
Coney and Melissa
