Dear Chapple family and
friends,
We have continued to have a fantastic week enjoying the sunshine
during our
second week of the spring holidays.
We started our week off with a ‘One Minute to Win It’ game day. During these games we played a cup stacking game, a blow
the pom pom with a straw game and made the craziest creatures, all in the time
of one minute. Prior to our games we discussed the concept of how there are 60
seconds in one minute, we demonstrated this by using a minute egg timer.
To enjoy the sunshine we played on the rainbow playground and explored the
grounds of Prince Alfred College. We visited a beautiful garden in the senior
school that the children call the ‘secret garden.’
The children showed interested in
eye colours and face features. We discussed how we can look quite different or
similar to others. The children were introduced to the concept of ‘symmetry,’
as they created face portraits of themselves.
We explored Mexican culture by having a Mexican
Fiesta day. We made some guacamole, a piñata and enjoyed some face painting. We
listened and danced to some traditional Mariachi band music, followed up by a
reflection and discussion about how the music made us feel and what colours the
music sounds like.
Through exploring cultural festivals of other countries we
broaden our understanding of the world in which we live in. We will continue
exploring the cultural festivals of other countries during the summer holidays,
be prepared and watch this space!
