Dear
parents and friends,
This week we have had another action packed week with plenty of fun
and activities. Children have been exploring sunflowers in our room by observing
them and painting them on easels and we are surprised to see so many masterpieces
coming up. As the weather has finally become sunny and warm, we have decided to take our sunflowers
exploration one step further. On Thursday we planted some sunflowers seeds. Before planting them, we
talked about what can help sunflowers grow and the children have shared their
beautiful thoughts with us.
Robert: we need seeds first to
grow them.
Poppy: We cannot plant them in
winter or they will freeze.
Harry H: Yeah, because mine
died, my mum thought the rain was going to help it grow, but it was too cold
and rainy, so they were drowned.
Regan: Sunflowers only grow
when they have enough water.
Romesh: Sunflowers always need
soil.
Seb: I am thinking
they only grow in summer and spring, because it is warm.
Liam: They need water and have seeds in the soil.
Antonio: They grow into flowers
with a circle shape.
Amelia: They have pointy leaves.
Will: They have black seeds
Teddy: They grow from dirt.
Poppy: I know lots about
sunflowers. Soil, sunlight, water, seed—the last thing they need to help them
grow. If you don’t have this, you need to buy it. They are yellow, Miss
Bowden’s favourite colour. And the middle is brown and the seeds are actually
black. They don’t grow in Autumn, but some other flowers
do.
Seb: You got to put soil in
the tray and seeds, and then you cover the seeds with soil. After that, we need
to water them to grow. Our sunflowers might grow up to the galaxy.
Dominic: Fertiliser comes in a
packet and it’s heavy. I can lift it.
Seb: Sunflowers smell like
the real sun and they all smell different.
After we talked about
how we grow sunflowers from seeds, we planted our sunflowers with our Edgerley
friends. Children had great fun by doing it and we do hope these seeds can turn
into beautiful flowers to decorate our school yard.
On Monday, we enjoyed
watching the movie ‘Minions’ together with our Chapple friends and Edgerley friends. On Wednesday we explored what can make the
volcano explode and we were surprised by the children’s creative and interesting
thoughts.
It was so lovely to have
Miss Bowden back along with the warm sunshine. Children were so excited to
share what has been happening in our classroom with her.
Kind regards,
Miss Wenting and Miss Bowden
