Welcome to
the Spring Program!
Our first
day was cold, wintry and wet which deterred us from outside play time. So instead we stayed indoors and decided to
have a ‘Movie Day’ to watch ‘Despicable Me 2’ and joining us was the Chapple
Room and Angwin Room.
We continued
the week with a couple of ‘Science Experiments’. Using bi-carb soda and vinegar
we saw how the reaction of baking soda and vinegar powers the chemical volcano.
The carbon dioxide escapes the solution as it bubbles and overflows. We
attached a balloon to the bottle while pouring vinegar to witness how the
balloon blows up.
Teacher: Why is the balloon getting bigger?
Charlie P: It blows up.
Teacher: Bi-carb Soda makes a gas. It’s like
an invisible air that makes the balloon from small too big.
Teacher: Now we have cornflower and water… mix
it together and see how it feels.
Joshua: It’s sticky and squishy.
Rory: It’s very gooey and sticky and feels
like glue.
Teacher: It’s called gloop. It feels gooey and
gluey Rory.
We made the
most of the glorious 28 degree spring day outside gardening. The children chose
a sunny position in the yard to plant beautiful bright happy sunflowers. They
dug the soil to soften it and the teachers added some potting mix while the
children pushed the seeds into the soil about one centimetre. We gently watered
the soil and seeds with a watering can and now we wait in anticipation to see
the sunflowers grow. We thank the
sunshine for a great ending to our week.
We have
thoroughly enjoyed the first week of the Spring Program with more fun and
exciting days to come next week. Have a safe and happy weekend and we see you
soon.
Cris and
Satinder.
