A Special Visitor

Next Tuesday at 2.30pm we will have a visit from a special " man in red " , who may have some special surprises (shh...it's a secret !) All children are welcome to come for this but as usual parents will need to stay if it is not their child's day !

Annual Leave

I will be on Annual Leave from Wednesday 5th December until Friday 14th December. Mrs Nacca will be available for any basic centre administration and Mr Sean Watt can be contacted through the Prep School (83341203) for any further enquiries.

Staffing 2013

At the start of Term 1- 2013 Mrs Katherine Baird will take join Mrs Rocca in the Edgerley room and take on the teaching position . Katherine has worked with us previously in the Chapple Room and also taught in the Prep School. We are looking forward to her return to the ELC.
As Miss Freer is moving interstate next year Miss Caratozzolo and Mrs Kerr will move up with the Mead children to Chapple room and join Mrs Schmidt.
Miss Kasauskas will move with Langley children to Mead room to join Mrs Mckenzie and Mrs Cooper and we will have a new staff member join us as part of the team in Langley room.

We look forward to 2013 with anticipation !

Parent Information Sessions and Move up Day

There will be information sessions for Parents whose children will be in Mead and Chapple Rooms next year at 4pm on Monday Dec 3rd in the respective classrooms .There will also be a meeting for parents of new children starting in Langley room next year.

Children moving up from Langley and Mead  will visit their new rooms on Tuesday 4th Dec at 9.00.am. Children who do not attend this day are welcome to come in but a parent must remain with them. Chapple children will be visiting their Reception classes.

Missing Hats

There seem to be quite a few missing school hats at the moment. Please check  your child's hat to make sure they have the correct one and make sure they bring it each day as we have very limited spare ones and the children cannot play outside without one.

Chapple Room

Dear Chapple Room Parents and Friends,
I can't believe we are entering our last week for the year. The class is very ready to move up to Reception and all had a great morning on Wednesday. We are looking forward to Move Up morning on next Tuesday too! Please don't forget a snack and hat! We are preparing for our Graduation on Thursday and looking forward to sharing a little concert with you all. It will be very relaxed and informal but a nice way to end the year. Miss Freer and I are very proud of the group and have loved working with each and every child throughout year. It has been a pleasure watching them grow and develop. Thank you for being such a lovely group of parents to work with also.
Sadly, we will be saying farewell to Marios, Grace, Leon, Gabe, Zoe and Owen and wish them all the best at their new schools. Have a Merry Christmas, safe holidays and a well earned rest of the Christmas break.

Edgerley Room

This week we have been busy finishing off our work and getting ready for the end of the term.  We have been making beautiful stick angels that we have been hanging on the wall in the classroom. This week has been very hot and we thought that the best thing on a hot day was an ice block!  We borrowed a stab mixer from Mr. Rob on Thursday and we blitzed up some watermelon to freeze into ice blocks.  The class counted how many pieces of watermelon we cut up, 24 and we counted how many children we needed to make ice blocks for.  William counted everybody's heads and found that we needed 13, but with Rayan coming later we needed one more, 14 and one for Mrs Rocca and Miss Giorgio made 16! After a play outside they were the best things on a hot day.

Mead Room

Dear Parents and Friends,
We have had a fun filled week finishing off some of our learning. We have continued to work on our Christmas decorations and have shared festivities with our class Christmas party on Wednesday. This week we have had our silkworm moths come out of their cocoons and lay many many eggs... so next year we look forward to welcoming many new silkworms again! Our weekly show and tell has involved sharing Christmas food, so we have had wonderful fun trying panettone, candy canes, Christmas cupcakes and more!

Cooper Room

Dear Parents and Friends of the Cooper Room,

It has been another busy week in the Cooper - with Christmas presents to make, trees to decorate, stories to share and puzzles to create. The children have also been busy preparing special letters to Father Christmas. Next week we will walk to the post office as a class and send our letters.
"It is nearly Christmas time," said Henry
"I have a BIG tree at home," said Harrison
"We put up our tree too. A tree for Christmas!" added James
"I don't have a Christmas tree. I have a family Eid tree. All my family are on it," commented Ammar
"No tree," said Harry shaking his head.

We also had a a very special visitor pop in on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Blake came in for Show and Tell and showed us baby Edward!

"He's talking," said Max as he heard Edward babble
"Our baby likes to hold fingers," said Harry P
"Babies don't drink apple juice, they drink milk," shared Pauline
"He's looking tired. I think he needs a sleep!" said Jackson

It was lovely to see little Edward and listen to Mrs Blake tell us about all the things he likes to do. Edward really liked looking around our room, especially at our black and white jigsaw faces.

Langley Room

As the weather has warmed up this week we have been enjoying water play in the Langley yard and in the big yard. We have loved the excitement of running under the flowing water in the sandpit, playing in the mud, and scooping water out of large containers as well as playing with the small dishes in the water trough. Not only have we been keeping cool through engaging in these experiences but we have been developing our knowledge and understanding of measurement. We have been discussing our findings as we experiment with pouring water from one container to another.

“It’s full” commented James as he held up his small container of water.

Jock had noticed what James was doing and held up his container also “it’s half full” he explained.

“It’s not full yet” said Jack as he continued to fill his container.

Miss Kerry will be returning to work next Tuesday 4^th December and its Miss Jess’ turn for a holiday from Wednesday 5^th. She will return to work on Thursday 13^th December. 

Chapple Room Transitions

Dear Chapple Room Parents,
This week your child will be involved in the final stages of our transition program, have a chance to meet their teacher and become familiar with their classroom during an orientation morning. Children will be placed in class groups for this session.

At this stage, we have allocated children to their classes based on many factors. Through discussions between the classroom teachers, Neil Andary, Sean Watt, parents and children, we have grouped children according to what is educationally best, factoring in social, emotional, developmental factors, and parent discussions. At all stages of the process, our best interests lie with what we feel is best for each individual child.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding class placement, Sean Watt and Neil Andary will be available during the orientation morning or you can contact them via email or phone.

They are a beautiful group and are enthusiastically looking forward to the big move into Reception!

Don't forget a drink bottle and a small, healthy snack.

Holiday Dates

There are now only 2 weeks left of school term !  Please fill in the days your child will be here or away for during the two weeks prior to our Christmas closure on the sheets in the sign in folders and if your child is leaving please let me know when their final day will be ,

We are aware that it is often hard to get a park in the car park particularly at school drop off and pick up times but please be mindful of other families and do not park where other cars are then blocked in.

Dear Chapple and Edgerley Parents and Friends,
Thank you for a wonderful morning on Tuesday at our Christmas Fare. It was such a special day for all the children, giving them the opportunity to share an activity and part of their day with you at school. There were some delicious treats and everyone went to so much effort. Thank you for all your contributions on the day and also for the recipes for the recipe book. We will be sending home a copy of the class recipe books shortly. The decorations that were made on the day are beautiful and the children cannot wait to take them home! We hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.
