Dear Cooper Room Families and Friends,

This has been another week full of fun, exploration and messy play. We commenced the week over in the Red Centre playing a variety of ball games to enhance our physical development. During our walk as we explored the school grounds the children were fascinated by the different machinery used by the maintenance workers which lead into further related discussions. We visited the library and from there the children were up for a play at the rainbow playground. I brought a digging sandpit inside the classroom and the children have been in their element building bridges for the diggers and trucks. As a team we decided to continue making banana and strawberry smoothies, this has been a hit for the entire two weeks.

Science learning experiments have been a focus these holidays, the children were able to manipulate teat pipettes as they dropped food colouring into flour, milk and shaving foam. This was a great way to foster concentration, cause and effect and hand-eye co-ordination. We experimented using our fingers to mix blue and red paint to see the colour change and we mixed solid colours with white paint to see the colour lighten. The children have engaged in these messy play experiences, it fosters opportunities and is a great learning process.

The Cooper Room teamed up with the Mattingley Room to have two cooking stations. These stations consisted of kneading damper and decorating cookies. We were working in small groups enhancing communication, talking through the recipe, measuring, pouring and creating decorations, these were all opportunities to connect with the children. It was a glorious day so we walked over to the school oval to eat the food the children prepared, they were super excited to try something different.

It’s been an entertaining, busy, exciting and stimulating two weeks, we’ve enjoyed these holidays immensely. Have a safe weekend and see you all next week.

Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Families,

What another great week we have had in the Edgerley room during the second week of the Term 3 holidays. The weather has  been kind again for all our holiday activities.

On Monday it was a welcome break with the Public Holiday and we hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Tuesday we started to make our Giant Space rocket. We started to paint it white but ran out of paint, so we read the book Rockets, Planets and Outer Space. We all agreed to make the rocket in the book (blue and red) and Harry B suggested to “Put a computer inside to fly the Rocket Ship”. 

On Wednesday we had a nice time playing in the classroom and started to paint the rocket fins a “Cool Red”.  After Morning fruit we went on our Nature Hunt around the college. On the oval Knox found some “Black grass” (the black sports lines), Tommi found some yellow leaves. We all loved exploring the college grounds where we found a fountain and ended up at the ‘Rainbow Playground’.

Thursday we returned to the ‘Secret Garden’ we found the day before, for our morning fruit time. What wonderful weather we had for the picnic. Exploring the garden was like being back in the time of the dinosaurs or being lions in the jungle. After eating we found the School Museum where we saw lots of things from the past days of the college. We found old college uniforms, trophies & medals, swords on display and a beautiful stained glass window.

Friday is a day full of fun. In the morning we head off for the Red Centre for some Wacky sports and in the afternoon we visit the Library for some quiet reading time.

Mattingley

Dear families and friends,

For the final week of the holidays the children have become creative and imaginative! With their passion of the story "We are going on a bear hunt" the children reinacted the story by walking around the school hunting for a grizzly bear. By the end of the week some children had helped to produce a class book of their adventure.

As many children have been on camping trips the children decided to add a fire to their camp ground, they even used sticks and large white balls to make hot marshmellows. TASTY! Finally in true Australian style we made dampier and ate it out under the trees, what a lovely way to end our week!

As the spring is here and the weather is getting warmer we will be having alot of water experiences outside. Please remember to bring spare clothes in a carrier bag so they have something homely to change into.

We would also like to say a big goodbye to Patrick who has been at the centre for a long time. He will be moving to a school closer to home, we wish him and his family all the best and may you 'Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.'

Chapple

Dear Families

What a busy week we have had in the Chapple room during the second week of the School Holidays.

Our theme of ‘Spring into Spring’ was celebrated from the start of the week when we collected flowers for still life art when we visited the Preparatory School. At the start of the week we also made potato stampers with an assortment of shapes to create our bright coloured ‘Potato paint’ experience. Later in the week we also had fun creating origami tulips in an assortment of Spring time colours. To make the most of the beautiful Spring time weather we had a morning in the ‘Secret Garden’ where we enjoyed our morning fruit in the sunshine. Here we spent some time using our senses to thinking about what we could hear, see and smell whilst we were out in nature.

Along with visits to the Rainbow Playground and secret garden, we also visited the bottom oval for a morning of PE. Here we took part in running, hopping, skipping and jumping races as well as running relays. We also had fun taking part in a game of marks up and football.

It was very exciting to witness the blood moon lunar eclipse on Wednesday night. Many children from the class watched this with their families at home. We also watched a clip of the eclipse in class and learnt that the bright colours are created as the sun sets and reflects against the moon. We had a go at creating our own blood moons to display as part of our learning environment.

To finish the week we made chocolate crackles and enjoyed them while we had a movie afternoon on Friday.

Some other popular activities this week included construction with Mobilo, transparent blocks and construction with wooden blocks. Well done on a fantastic creation by Angus T and Kai who created a three story hotel complete with a train track running through the bottom in the aim of making transport available for its guests. 

This week we would also like to wish David a very happy 5^th birthday. Thanks you for sharing your Jelly Bean surprise cupcakes with the class. What a great job you did at cooking them!

Wilkins

Dear Families

It has been a busy two weeks in the Wilkins room and around the grounds at PAC. We have spent some time in the BIG yard and watching the gardeners keep our yard clean and tidy. We helped them to pick up sand using wheel barrows, buckets and spades. We had lots of questions for the gardeners!

We have been on some walks around the school, to the oval for some parachute fun, the rainbow playground and a picnic lunch at the front of the school. We watched traffic go by during our picnic. We saw trucks, cars, motorbikes and even an aeroplane.

Summer is coming and we have made the most of this warmer weather for sand and water play, washing our dollies, and making mud pies. The Wilkins room have also been busy planting magic beans to make a beanstalk, just like the one in the story ‘The Jack and the Beanstalk.’

To finish off our holidays we had a dress up day, we had tigers, pumpkins, firemen, mermaids and many more. The Wilkins Master Chefs were also busy preparing ingredients and mixing our dough to make delicious muffins for our class party. Eating them was definitely a highlight!

Langley

The second week of holidays are over and it is time to get organised for fourth term!

My, oh, my! What a quick year we are having.

This week has been such a beautiful week, once again enjoying the sunshine! We have been very busy creating masterpieces in our art centre, using the flowers we collected last week we have made collages of flower clippings and painted using the inspiration of the beautiful ‘bird of paradise’ flower we found.

A big thank you to Dominic and his family for bringing in a big bag of oranges, we made delicious juice! The children are really interested in how our fruit can turn into a liquid and love the taste. Yum, yum!

As there has been or will be a lot of little siblings entering the world for our Langley children lately, we have really been getting into learning about babies. The children have been cleaning their dolls, changing their nappies, clothing them, feeding them and putting them to sleep! Hopefully they are just as helpful at home!

Angwin

Dear Angwin families and friends,

The first week of the Holidays have been jam-packed for our little people.

Our interest has been around the explorations about fairies and pirates.

"Fairies are little creatures with wings" Oliver said.

"They like to be around trees and flowers" Jarrah added.

We have been busy making our own fairy gardens and homes to welcome them into our classroom.

The pirates came and joined us this week sailing their ships and digging for gold.

We made maps and located the treasures using our own clues and signs.

This gave us opportunities to share, take turns, negotiate and make decisions as a group.

It was even more fun when we got to dress up as fairies and pirates ourselves.

We watched the movie "Epic" and discussed the importance about looking after nature and keeping the balance.

We did lots of Aboriginal dot painting on paper, tree barks and leaves.

We also enjoyed our play time in the Red Centre exploring various sports and games with the help of Mr. Cleveland as well as making our own ramps and car runs for our collection of matchbox cars.

Next week we will be painting our fairy doors and get our recycled milk bottle planters ready for some spring and summer gardening.

We will continue our explorations on pirates and fairies as we finish off our gardens and extending it outdoors.

Langley

Dear Langley Families

This week the Langley Room has had a great time enjoying the lovely weather. We were able to explore in the ‘big yard’ and we had a few visits to the big school oval where we played ball games, danced and had running races – we even had a picnic this Friday at the Rainbow Playground.

Harry was making his teachers and his friends some ‘shakes’ using materials in the room on Wednesday, Miss Emily and Miss Brooke brought in their blenders and  some fruit to make juice on Friday  for the children to taste.

On Thursday, Erin and Dominic delivered some flowers they had picked when they arrived  – We all went up to the Prep School  and picked some of the flowers together, we discussed what colours we could see and what shapes they were – one looked like a bird!

Next week we have dress up day on Thursday, anything of your choice! Express yourself J

We would like to wish Ryka the best of luck at her new school and a great future to the Dave family.

Mead

Dear Mead Families

Week one of term three holidays was filled with lots of exciting experiences, all the Mead children had a fabulous time playing and exploring in the classroom. The tools in the construction site were a huge hit as most of the children had a role to play while the construction site was in progress. The children also enjoyed experiencing the pit full of gooey slime, collecting the treasure from its bottom then hiding the treasure again for someone else to find.    

During our morning meetings we read a book called “The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle, this lead to an amazing conversation about the different seasons especially the season of spring.

Lachlan- the flowers grow on the trees.

Christian- grass grows.

Finn- the flowers grow and then the sun helps it grow.

Lily- you can pull the apples off the tree.

Doane- water makes the grass grow

Annabel- the flowers grow in spring and the leaves are on the trees.

William- big trees grow.

Steven- water comes down from cloud to flower.

To follow on form our morning meeting conversation we provided a range of art experiences for the children to explore such as, printing blossom trees using the bottom of a soft drink bottle and juicy red apples to hang in the Mead room tree.

Mattingley

Our week in Mattingly with Miss Moir and Miss Gray started with a visit to the library to share stories about going on a space adventure. We then went on a visit to the Rainbow playground at the Preparatory School.

On Tuesday Our ‘Fairies and Pirates fantasy theme’ was in full swing with the creation of our very own pirate maps. We had fun thinking about where we think the secret treasure might be hidden in the outside yard. We had a movie session complete with our very own pop-corn as we watched the ‘Tinkerbelle movie’ with our friends in Cooper and Mead.

Wednesday was Fairy and Pirate dress-up day. Lots of the Mattingley children joined in the celebrations as we created Pirate hats and fairy wings to complete our costumes. Today we also finished our ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ story board with the help of the Mattingley Children.

On Thursday we went on an Adventure throughout the school. Our morning started off in the Secret Garden where we enjoyed fruit with the Cooper and Mead children. We then went exploring through the College museum and finished our adventure at the Rainbow playground.

The week ended with a fun filled ‘Sports Day’ as all of our friends from Cooper and Mead joined us on the courts for some action packed sporting games and activities.

This week we have also been interested in home corner play, construction, recount, description and story telling.

What a fun and exciting start to our term three holidays.

We can’t wait to see what is in store for the Mattingley Room next week!

Miss Moir and Miss Gray

Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Families,

What a fun and great week we have had in the Edgerley room. The weather has been so nice for us to have a wonderful time with our holiday activities.

On Monday we started to make our Space Junk with Miss Kerry and what a great addition to our room it has made. It was also a great day to make our colourful kites as the day provided the wind to fly them on the Back Oval (What Fun!!)

Tuesday was our cooking day – we made Space Crackles with Miss Kerry – they were super yummy! It was tricky getting the ‘Planet’ sprinkles on but we worked it out in the end – and they looked just as good as they tasted!

On Wednesday the Pirate day was a huge success with lots of children dressing up, making Pirate hats and patches to wear. To top off the morning the Pirate flag was raised in the Town Square. After lunch we walked around the school campus to look for our special treasure. We all loved looking for special shiny objects!

Thursday we had our Bug hunting expedition in the Boarders garden and the Rainbow playground where we found an assortment of different bugs, slugs, worms and even “milillipede’s” (said Zander) to look at. It was great to go looking for them and getting a bit dirty in the process.

Friday was a day to relax a bit before the weekend and to take in a movie. We watched A Bugs Life to follow on with the bug hunting we did on Thursday. Best of all Popcorn!

Cooper

Dear Cooper Room Families and Friends,

This week the children have been busy experimenting, exploring and having a fun filled week. We made strawberry and banana smoothies, the children became intrigued in the change of colour when the milk and fruit blended together. This led into further discussions about mixing colours together that we put into practice. This super fun process of exploring and mixing red and yellow paint/dye was a great way to learn about colour change. We continued to investigate the change of black and white paint too.
 
We explored with our sensory play projects this week in decorating pinecones, making coloured gloop, and finger painting. On a few occasions we visited the rainbow playground, had a picnic in the secret garden, visited the library, came dressed in fairies and pirates costumes and to top off we had a PE day on the school oval dressed in our house colours.

What a fabulous week!

Chapple

Dear Chapple Families and Friends

What a fun first week of holidays we have had! We have had fabulous weather for our Spring experiences and the children have really enjoyed what I had planned. We started off the week by making bird feeders to invite more birds into our yard! The children were quite proud of them and I'm sure they would love to show you! We also planted some Radish and Carrot seeds in glass jars and hope to see them sprouting soon!

Our movie day was a complete hit! We had popcorn and fairy bread and watched "Monsters University". Finishing off the week with a "Footy Day" in all our team colours and some water play has been a blast!

Looking forward to another fun week of holidays before we jump into term 4! Where has the year gone? Take care everyone and enjoy the break!
