In the Classrooms

Langley
We have continued our investigation into light and dark through experimenting with sand on the light table. We have discovered that when you move the sand out the way, the light can shine through. It has been lots of fun creating all sorts of pictures, patterns and writing. Thank you to all the families who came to celebrate ArtsPACes with us on Wednesday night. We were all very excited to share our movies with you in our spectacular Shadowlands movie theatre. If you were unable to join, keep an eye out for a copy of the movie in your Learning Portfolio next time you take it home. We look forward to participating in our sports day Wednesday, make sure you check your pigeon hole for details.
Kind regards,Jess, Adele, Kerry and Jennifer

Mead
Dear Mead Parents,
We have been very excited with the feathered friends that have been visiting our outdoor area. While we sit and eat, we watch the parrots, listen to their chatter and talk about their activities. Our painting easels have seen alot of activity this week with children creating their own impressions of the parrots. Some beautiful work has been produced. Please take a moment to look at the whole ELC parrot display in progress which is in the courtyard cafe area.
Best wishes,
Emma, Susan and Emma

Cooper
As we continued our investigation into towers, the Cooper children went to visit Erin's Daddy's office on the third floor of the big building. Erin had invited us to come and see the lions and tigers through the window at the top of the building, so we decided to go and investigate. It turned out that we couldn't see any wild animals but there were buses on Dequetteville Terrace. While we were upstairs the ladies in the finance office showed us the view from their balcony - we could see big boys playing football, the roofs of buildings and even the ELC from up there!
As we were carefully going down the many stairs, we bumped into Mr Tutt and he offered to take the children to see a secret tower! We followed him around the big old building, he opened a door with his keys and we found... even more stairs! Again the children climbed right to the top of the building and this time we could see into the top of a leafy tree. What an adventure! Thank you to Mr Tutt, Mr Lyne and everyone who helped us with our exploring.
Kind regards,
Ali and Susan

Chapple
Chapple’s Space Station is in top working order and the Chapple astronauts have been busy going on space missions to the Moon, to Jupiter, to the Asteroid Belt and many far-away places in search of rock samples. We’ve brought our rocks back to the Chapple Space Station to observe them and to record and describe their characteristics. It’s proved to be an excellent writing experience and also a chance to capture the imaginations of these young space explorers!
“Look at this one,” said Hamish excitedly, “It's gigantic!”
“It looks so so large in the magnifying glass,” agreed Lloyd.
“This one has holes in it and it's white. It’s from up in space from a planet. I went there!” told Finn obviously very impressed with his findings!
“This one is chalky so I think it’s from the moon,” Sebastian piped in as he looked at the white one with Finn.
Connor then told his fellow astronauts, “This one has sparkly bits in it so maybe it grew from the stars.”
“Oooooh, feel this one,” shared Sam G, “It’s cold and smooth and soft but hard.”
As the boys bounced their findings from one astronaut to the other they recorded their descriptions onto note paper and sent it through to Max to be typed up for their records.
Please come into the classroom and spend a few moments with your child:
· Reading Chapple’s Space Facts Book
· Counting numbers 0 – 50 on the floor!
· Sharing the facts we’ve recalled by looking at our galaxy wall (window near the bathrooms)
· Looking at our classmade Solar System and asking your child questions about it
· Playing in our Space Station

Edgerley
This week we enjoyed learning about the game of chess. Angus brought his chess set from home and tutored us on the finer points. He shared with us the names of all of the pieces…we all liked the horse but Mrs Bishop liked the… bishop! Surprise surprise! Chess is very tricky and so next week we will begin to record the rules that we know. Did you know that pawns are very speedy when they start but then they have to slow right down after they have had their first turn?!
We have enjoyed the warm weather and blue skies, making the most of time in the garden and on the oval. We have practiced for sports day every day this week and on Thursday were even helped by the year five boys who helped us remember to run in between the lines. They let us ride on their backs and we all had a piggy back race, it was lots of fun. Mr Waters from year one tried to join in our game of fruit salad but he kept forgetting the rules and tried to eat the bananas! In the end we had to stop the game because we were all laughing so much. Mr Waters had to leave with an empty tummy!!! We will be keeping an eye out for him when we move to the big school next year!
What a great week!
Regards
Mel and Rosalie
