Mead

Dear Mead Room families and friends

What a wonderful start to Term 1.  As we mentioned in our Weekly Diary we have strived to create a welcoming and sustaining environment in the Mead Room, an environment to support the transition of new children and families into our ELC community, and to also maintain the foundation of investigation and learning already embedded. Mead Room friends have spent the past couple of weeks exploring our space, both indoors and out, consolidating new routines and new friendships!

It was a noisy start to Week 2 with our Chinese New Year celebrations!
Isla B – It’s a lion, it had sparkly on it.
Iverson – Its not a real lion.
Elise – I know its not real – I saw people in it!
Vivienne – The dragon did go away.
Zahli – We were loud!
Christian S – It was a big, big lion… this big!
Max – We made lots of noise.
Leo – I saw some people aswell.
Jack – A big, BIG lion!
Jimmy – I shaked them (instruments)
Ming Ming – Yellow lion.

We have made ourselves known to our resident chooks and have collected the eggs on a few occasions.  We also give them our lunch scraps (when there is no chicken on the menu…..) and we make sure they have plenty of water too.

Due to the extreme heat we have been engaging in plenty of water play.  Lots of filling, pouring, floating and sinking, splashing, track making, and of course evaporation!  The children spent a great deal of time exploring the properties of water as well as the concepts of volume and capacity.  It was also a terrific way to practice social skills too—such as sharing and negotiating resources.
