A busy and hot week kicked off with a celebration of
Chinese New Year. Some Senior Boys came down and performed a Lion Dance and
told us the story behind it. The children got to shake bells and bang drums to
scare the monster away.
We have continued our investigation into flags and used
this to explore number and pattern. We made our own repeating pattern and even
golf flags which were especially popular.
Our investigation into flags led us to the Preparatory School where
we found a large flag to look closely at. Some of the children noticed shells
and an anchor on it. We are a bit confused why they are on there and with all
good questions our investigations continue.
We have had great fun with the bubble wrap for sensory
play, particularly when we take our shoes off and jump on it to pop the
bubbles.
We have also been encouraging mark making as part of
emergent writing. It is important to allow the children the joy of “writing”
without the pressure of forming letters and writing words- that will come.
Check out emergent curriculum wall in the class room to
follow where our investigation take us.
The show and tell roster has been placed in lockers and
will start week 3.
If possible can you check the children’s bags and place
in some extra spares. With this warm weather, they are loving the water and
changes of clothes are more frequent.
