Edgerley

Dear Edgerley families,

We have had another busy, messy, crazy week in Edgerley!

Our initial investigations into trees has been put on the back burner while we find out about each others ideas about harmony

Thank you to the few parents and siblings who added their ideas about harmony to our board, we would encourage others to join in and leave us some ideas (don’t forget to add your name).

To kick off our inquiry into harmony we read the book “Same, But a Little Bit Different” by Kylie Dunstan. Set in Australia, it encouraged the children to think about what is more important, peoples differences or similarities. We then watched a short Pixar animation called “For the Birds”,  which you can view at the link below, and discussed ideas about kindness, inclusiveness and working together. Not all of the children have seen it yet so we would urge you to take the opportunity to view and discuss it with your child.

Wednesday children also visited a junior band practice at the Langley Music space in the senior school to observe what happens when people work in harmony together. We boogied away to a fantastic jazz piece and were amazed at what happened when all the instruments played together.
The drum makes it’s own sound and that connects to the other sounds, said Charlie P
They (instruments) are all different but they are all the same ‘cause they makes sounds, said Charlie O

The following day we decided to work together in harmony to create a shared piece of art work but we had a problem. Our rectangle piece of paper didn’t give all the children equal access. Could we find another shape that would allow all to be involved?

We finally settled on a circle and taped a huge circle to the big table top outside our classroom. Our work is still in progress so come and have a look at how it has gone so far. We found other circles on the internet that looked like ours called mandalas, and attempted to illustrate some with pencils. We talked more about circles.
A roundabout is a circle and people are allowed to go onto it, they don’t have to stop at a red light, said Henry
Ferris wheels are round, it lets lots of people get on, said Aston
We have a circle at mat time and that lets all see and join in,  said Mrs Bishop
Who knew circles were so harmonious!

We are also looking for a parent helper who would be able to join us from 11.30 to 12.30 next Friday. The children are making dumplings with Lao Shi Went Ting in their Chinese class and we would love a helper to roll out the children’s dumpling wrappers. If you are able to help could you please let Miss C know or e-mail her directly as I will unfortunately be absent next Friday on carers leave.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the cool change

Love Mel, Emma and Cris

Apologies:  Due to a glitch with the syncing of our devices there will be no Edgerley photos on the blog this week. As soon as we have resolved this issue you will be able to see some lovely photos of the children creating their mandalas up in the classroom.
