Dear Cooper
families,
What scorchers we
have had this week! Because of the extremely hot weather this week we have had
to utilise our inside spaces. Our Cooper fire truck and fire station set up has
been busy, as usual. The children have been interacting beautifully with each
other, negotiating roles in their play, sharing ideas and taking in turns using
the resources.
On Wednesday when
Yash and Toby were helping Miss Gilbert collect some resources from around the
centre we walked past our outside garden and noticed that there were an abundance
of beautiful sunflowers that were blossoming. We chose a few flowers to pick
and brought them back to the classroom as inspiration for our painting easel
experience. The paintings that have developed from this experience have been
wonderful. The children have had to use their observational skills to look at
the flowers stalk, petals and leaves to recreate this onto their paper.
This
week we were lucky enough to have a group of international students from the
Senior School come to the ELC to perform the ‘Lion Dance’ as part of our
Chinese New Year celebrations. We gathered in the Town Square with our musical
instruments and played along to the music as the Lion’s jumped and danced
around the children. We had a conversation after the performance to explore the
children’s thoughts on the Lion Dance performance.
Olivia – The dragons came.
Larissa – It was Lions,
they talked to each other.
Ed – They went
rahhhhh.
Isaac S – We played music
to scare them away.
Miss Gilbert – What did some of
the children give the lions?
Linda – Money.
Ed – Money.
Olivia – Candy.
Samuel – Money.
Ed – He gave me a
hi-5.
Sebastian A – They open their mouth up and down to give them money.
Larissa – I liked the red
one and the yellow one.
Miao Miao – I liked the
yellow one.
Isaac S – I like the red
one best. There wasn’t any lanterns.
Samuel – I give them some
of the lolly pops and the money.
Yash – We give them
candy and money.
Karl – I play the music,
not so loud.
Sebastian A – I loved the red dragon, they were walking and people gave them red letters.
Stirling – They wanted to
dance. People gave them candy and coins. We played music to scare the lions
away.
We hope that you
have a lovely weekend and try and stay cool!
Love Miss Gilbert
and Mr Richards
