Mattingley

Dear Mattingley friends and families,

It's been another busy and fun filled day for our little people in the Mattingley room. The children have been exploring various concepts about the human body as they revisited this interest from their learning journey in the Langley room. They have been asking a lot of questions and many have been very kind to offer answers and lots of new ideas especially after a quick watch of the magic school bus exploring inside the human body.
"Food go in the mouth" says Lochlann
"I call it belly flop" adds Chloe talking about stomach juices
"Yum yum. Food!" quips Joshua S
" Food for Freddy" says Fred.

Some of our families visited the Pre Historic Museum in Adelaide lately and many children have been sharing their experiences sparking new interest in the classroom.
"Yeah, I saw the dinosaurs. Their teeth were big and they are so tall", shares Lochlann.
"I know about dinosaurs too", adds Leo.
" I know about diplodocus!" says Samuel.
"Here! these dinosaurs are very scary" shouts Marcel.
"This is that dinosaur" says Thomas spotting a dinosaur that matches a character in a book we were reading.

We engaged the children in discussion as we planned a dinoland to explore.
"Leaves. we need leaves for flying dinosaurs", suggests Chloe.
"Yup. for Pterodactyls" says Ashton.
"Trees. For home" adds Jed.
"Maybe crabs?" wonders Felix.
"Yeah. They are for big dinosaurs", agrees Lochlann
"Food for big dinosaurs" says Lachlan.

The new  supermarket set up is gaining momentum as children bring in their acquired knowledge into their play and interactions. This is evident in the language they use and roles they choose to take. If you have some old food shopping catalogues, please bring us some to add to our shop display.

The digger bringing new sand for our sandpits has also been a great curious sight for the children as they observed a new garden taking shape outdoors. We can't wait what the children come up with as they explore this new area in the weeks to come. Watch out! Some say it might just turn into a jungle. You'll just never know.

Enjoy the long weekend and see you on Tuesday. Stay safe and cool.
