Dear Edgerley Families,
What a jam packed week it has been this week with a visit to
the zoo on Monday, an Easter celebration on Thursday and lots of team work on
the days in between. Thank you to all the parent helpers who helped make our
zoo trip so successful. What a wonderful morning it was with lots of rushing
about to spot the animals.
Mateo stepped up as project manager this week, solving
Stefan’s issue about how to create a salt water crocodile when we had never
actually seen one.
“I have one at home so I know what they look like” Mateo
said, and rushed to the book shelf to find a book on salt water crocodiles to
confirm his suggestions.
The boys decided to work together to make a life size
crocodile and madly started work, grabbing paper, drawing outlines and claiming
jobs. Very soon it was apparent that without some coordination the boys were
going to fight over what needed to be done.
“Wait, I need to think about this!” shouted Mateo, and all
the boys sat and waited as Mateo listed what needed to be made.
“We need a head and a tummy and a tail and legs, and I’m
making the tummy” he said
“Will it be a baby crocodile or a big crocodile Mateo?”
asked Varish
“It’s a Daddy!” exclaimed Mateo, “and Oscar can do the head”
he added
“And I’ll do the neck” said Varish
“I’ll do the tail!” added David
“And what can I do?” asked Kartik, looking to Mateo
“You can do a leg” said Mateo
“No, not a leg, I’m doing a leg” added Regan
“But there is more legs, you do a leg Kartik” said Mateo
As the crocodile started to come together David exclaimed
“We are doing it like a team! It’s team work!”
To follow on from this success we started working on large
shared puzzles the day after to try and work out what types of things make team
work successful. This is a work in progress and we shall continue to think
about team work next week.
At the start of this term we looked at the attributes of
dinosaurs, deciding what made some unique. We made posters of ourselves as
dinosaurs and shared some of the unique things we knew about ourselves. We
have left post-it-notes on the top of our lockers with pencils and would love
it if our parents could now stick some notes on our posters, sharing with us
the things they know are special about us. We are looking forward to
reading your comments.
We had a wonderful time on Thursday parading for our
friends, dancing up a storm and hunting for eggs. We hope you all have a lovely
and safe Easter long weekend. Happy Easter to you all
From Mel, Emma and Ty
