Cooper

Hi Cooper families,

The Cooper room was full with Easter festivities this week. In preparation for the Easter parade on Thursday, we started to decorate our wonderful Easter themed hats. The children selected from a variety of materials that they would use on their hats, some of the materials were coloured paper, acrylic paint, patty pans, paper doily’s and aluminum foil. The children were proud of their finished products, which looked wonderful!

We also were lucky enough to have two lovely parents come in to do some special Easter experiences with the Cooper room. Aston's mum Tali is a talented face painter and offered to come in on Wednesday to paint an Easter themed picture on the children’s arms. They looked fantastic and the children were parading around and showing their friends all afternoon.

Sebastien's mum Lucie, also came into the classroom to do an egg-speriment with the children. We looked at how friction can change the look and feel of an egg white from clear and gooey to white and fluffy. We used an electric mixer to create the friction in the eggs to change its form. The children used touch and sight to explore the changes that were happening to the egg white. We added sugar to the mixture, scooped blobs onto a baking tray, sprinkled 100’s and 1000’s to the top and baked it in the oven to make meringues. The children ate them as a class for afternoon tea, they were delicious!

Happy 4th Birthday to Sebastian H! We hope that you have a wonderful Birthday on Sunday. Thank you for organizing cupcakes to share with your friends!

“I’m going to Oakbank and it has the horses what are there and then they run really fast and and dogs go there, my aunties dogs. I got a crane and we got it from a toy shop. There was a forklift but I didn’t want a forklift I wanted a crane. We are going to sing happy birthday to me! I get to wear a badge; I’ll wear number 4 like Lexie.” – Sebastian H.

We hope that everyone has a safe and relaxing long weekend.

Love Miss Gilbert and Miss C

Langley

This week we have been discussing Easter and the special things we do with our families at this time.
Kaeshav - "We eat! I just eat the eggs from the Easter bunny!"
Declan - "Easter eggs. We're gonna put Easter hats on.....We're gonna go to the pool"
Lachlan - "The chickens come out of the chicken house"
Thursday's Easter hat parade was a great success and we even had a special visit from someone who left us many eggs to hunt for in our yard!

Also during the week, we moved our tadpoles from the container they were in and into a much more suitable tank. The children helped put peddles at the bottom and place rocks in the tank before scooping the water and tadpoles into their new home. We are encouraging the children to be respectful towards the tadpoles and not move or bang on the tank, just looking with our eyes.

We also cared for our other animals in the ELC this week - we feed the chickens! We had some very courageous Langley friends who went into the coop to feed them our left over salad scraps. It's wonderful to see the Langley children becoming socially responsible and showing respect for their environment and other living things.

Have a wonderful, restful and enjoyable long weekend!

Easter Hat Parade

What a wonderful Easter celebration we shared today, dancing our way around the Town Square in our parade and sharing our beautiful hats and ears. And what a wonderful surprise it was when we spotted some furry ears at the Town Square window…do you know who they might have belonged to?

The children rushed to the garden to discover that Easter Bunny had made a special early visit to Prince Alfred College and left our garden brimming with shiny eggs! We were such enthusiastic and thorough  hunters!

We would like to wish all our ELC families and special and safe Easter break. Looking forward to seeing you all next week.

Edgerley

Dear Edgerley Families,

What a jam packed week it has been this week with a visit to the zoo on Monday, an Easter celebration on Thursday and lots of team work on the days in between. Thank you to all the parent helpers who helped make our zoo trip so successful. What a wonderful morning it was with lots of rushing about to spot the animals.

Mateo stepped up as project manager this week, solving Stefan’s issue about how to create a salt water crocodile when we had never actually seen one.
“I have one at home so I know what they look like” Mateo said, and rushed to the book shelf to find a book on salt water crocodiles to confirm his suggestions.
The boys decided to work together to make a  life size crocodile and madly started work, grabbing paper, drawing outlines and claiming jobs. Very soon it was apparent that without some coordination the boys were going to fight over what needed to be done.
“Wait, I need to think about this!” shouted Mateo, and all the boys sat and waited as Mateo listed what needed to be made.
“We need a head and a tummy and a tail and legs, and I’m making the tummy” he said
“Will it be a baby crocodile or a big crocodile Mateo?” asked Varish
“It’s a Daddy!” exclaimed Mateo, “and Oscar can do the head” he added
“And I’ll do the neck” said Varish
“I’ll do the tail!” added David
“And what can I do?” asked Kartik, looking to Mateo
“You can do a leg” said Mateo
“No, not a leg, I’m doing a leg” added Regan
“But there is more legs, you do a leg Kartik” said Mateo
As the crocodile started to come together David exclaimed “We are doing it like a team! It’s team work!”
To follow on from this success we started working on large shared puzzles the day after to try and work out what types of things make team work successful. This is a work in progress and we shall continue to think about team work next week.

At the start of this term we looked at the attributes of dinosaurs, deciding what made some unique. We made posters of ourselves as dinosaurs and shared some of the unique things we knew about ourselves. We have left post-it-notes on the top of our lockers with pencils and would love it if our parents could now stick some notes on our posters, sharing with us the things they know are special about us. We are looking forward to reading your comments.

We had a wonderful time on Thursday parading for our friends, dancing up a storm and hunting for eggs. We hope you all have a lovely and safe Easter long weekend. Happy Easter to you all
From Mel, Emma and Ty

Angwin

Dear Parents and friends,

We have had a wonderful week getting ready for Easter in the Angwin Room! The children’s sharing has added so much to our understanding of what Easter means to us all.
We have been busy creating baskets, shiny cards and even bunny ears to wear for our Parade.
The children have been getting more excited as the countdown has continued!
We will continue our investigations next week, looking at lots of creatures that lay eggs and creating our own chocolate playdough!
Do enjoy a wonderful break with your family and friends!

We look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed again next week!

Kind Regards,

Pip and Coral

Chapple

The zoo was a great way to start the week and the children really enjoyed seeing all the animals. They chatted non-stop and are very knowledgeable about animals. However, I think the biggest hit has to be the new playground. We could have stayed all day!

We have done lots of making this week and this finished off with our Easter Parade. There was much grooving to the music as they showed off their hats!

We have done lots of chatting about coughs and cold and how we keep healthy. This has resulted in our own Doctors’ Surgery. Please make an appointment to see our young, but experienced staff.

Sadly next week is Mrs Shakespear’s last week for a while as she goes off to have her baby girl. We will all miss her.

In week 10 on Tuesday 5/4 and Wednesday 6/4 we will be conducting Parent Teacher interviews. The booking in sheet is in the classroom on top of lockers, but if you know these dates are inconvenient, please contact us as we will be looking to conduct some of the interview before this date. The sheet is filling fast, but there are a few space.

Louise will be contacting the parents of her focus children (she would have sent you a letter introducing herself if you are a parent of one) to do interview on a Friday.
