Langley

Dear Families and Friends,
We have had a very exciting and busy week in the Langley Room!
Stating off the week with a special walk up to the big school, we visited the chapel and looked at the beautiful stained glass windows – we spoke about the colours we could see. We also had a fun play on the playground before the big boys came out for recess.

Ryan –  ”I see yellow and green and blue and all the different colours.”
Audrey – “Oh, blue!”

Oliver – “wow, colours.”
We experimented with play dough, starting off with blue play dough and yellow play dough then got our hands dirty by squishing the two colours together and seeing what it made.

Prabir – “IT’S GREEN!”
Jason – “Lu!”

As the children have been really getting into their hair salon, Miss Sarah let the children wash, shampoo and blow dry her hair!
Oliver – “My Mummy wash my hair.”

Ashton   ”I go in the bath and Daddy wash my hair with soap and water in the bath.”
Have a great weekend!

Love the Langley Girls.

Mattingley

Dear Mattingley Families and Friends,

What a busy week we have had together as we continue to explore colours in our classroom. Miss Bowden made a fantastic game with the children earlier in the week where they had to remember their colours to find which house the little mouse was hiding under. Most of us know all of our colours and we are all getting very good at working out what colour paints to mix together to make our favourite colours.

During the week some of our families brought in lots of beautiful yellow craft items to add to our colourful canvas. We had a lot of fun collaging it together. We are going to have to make our yellow spot a little bigger on our canvas, as yellow seems to be a popular colour in our classroom. Next week we will be focusing on the colour blue. If you have any blue craft items you would like to bring in we would love to add them to our master piece.

Over the last few weeks we have been observing our ELC veggie patch very closely, watching the plants change and grow. On Friday morning our friend Harry H called out to us,

“Look! The tomato is bigger, much bigger!”

“Is it ready?” Miss Mason asked Harry.

“No it green. It need to be red. Then it ready!” Harry told us excitedly.

We will have to make sure that we keep a close eye on the tomatoes so we know when it is ready for us to pick. Harry will have to tell us when the time is right. We can’t wait to eat them! Please feel free to take a stroll through our outdoor learning environment to look at our wonderful veggie garden. The children have helped take care of the gardens and are very excited to see how much the vegetables have grown each time they come to care.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Kimberley and Coral

Mead

Dear Mead Room families,
In the Mead Room we share many stories.  We not only read books, we frequently use puppets and figures in our story telling and often ourselves!  We had a small group of story tellers give an impromptu adaptation of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.  The children used their creativity and agency to explore choices in story telling and performed in front of an enthralled audience. The beauty of retelling stories is that the children make it their own and can change it in any way they choose.  They negotiated the roles of the characters in the story and took turns being the Troll. We also had five Billy Goats and an apprentice Troll at one point!

Abi – I’m the little guy

Charlie B – Trip trap, trip, trap

Zoe – who’s that crossing my bridge?

Leonardo – Can I be the Troll?

Charlie L – we can too (both) be Trolls

Lola – TRIP, TRAAAAAAP!

Scarlet – the billy goats tripped, trapped over the bridge, is that their feet?

Zoe – I want to be the Troll again

Leonardo – GET OFF MY BRIDGE!

Benji – I’m going to eat you up!

The colours project has been a wonderful journey of discovery. The children have demonstrated independence and curiosity, keen to review their images and choose the ones for display. They have also shared some of the guidelines for caring for the camera and using it effectively.

Wilbur (explaining to Charlie B how to use the camera) – put your hand in here (through the wrist strap) – that’s so it don’t drop and press this silver circle.

Finally, on Friday we were invited to join the Prep School to a performance lead by Ngarrindjeri Elder Major Sumner, alternatively known as Uncle Moogy.  The dancers shared Creation stories from the Ngarrindjeri people and we learned of Kondilli the whale, the creation of emus and kangaroos aswell as a welcome to Ngarrindjeri ancestors and our ancestors too.

Banjo – I liked the kangaroos.  They jumped and moved their ears.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Melissa and Maddie

Cooper

Hello Cooper friends and families,

This week in the Cooper Room we continued making our rainbow by adding green items. Over the weeks we have had children bring in an array of items for the rainbow ranging from cars to tiaras and we would love them to keep coming in! Don't forget that we are collecting blue items in week 7.

I think bue (blue) will be next. Oscar
It’s beautiful Miss White! Zoë
Indigo and Violet are last. Ollie

This week we put up a sequence of photos (taken over 7 weeks) of the large tree out the front of the ELC on display in the Cooper Room and the children were asked to talk about the changes they could see occurring.

We growing big. The leaves changing to red yellow, brown. Jasper
They’re going off the trees. The leaves are going off. Mateo
The leaves fall and turn into colours yellow, grey and black. Andrei

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have Stefan bring in his pet yabby to show the class. The children were fascinated by the yabby and they couldn’t believe that Stefan caught it by using meat at the bait.

Have a lovely weekend and we'll see you all next week.

Jain & Cris

Chapple

Dear Chapple Families

It is our last week with Mr Thorpe and he treated us to the delights of the “Funky Chicken.” Mr Thorpe has been great and we wish him well in his future studies.

The trip to Norwood Oval was a great success and all the children enjoyed the experience. Thanks to all the parent helpers who came along at short notice, it would be not be possible without such enthusiastic support.

We are already looking to our next term’s inquiry topic of “Marvellous Machines.” We are on the lookout for donations of any machines that we can “deconstruct” – Additionally we would love to see any machines- simple or complex that the children would not know what they are or how they work or be simply amazed!

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins Families,

What another great week we have had in the room.

Our Wilkins friends have been engrossed in reading stories every morning. So Monday morning we arranged a time with the junior school library to go and have a visit. Mrs Carla and Miss Ellen took our friends up for a walk after fruit.

“Sunny day Mrs Carla.” – Laura

“My shadow in sun.” – Danica

“Look sun.” – pointed Yifan

Our friends were very excited to see how many books the library held. We will hope to revisit the library again soon.

Our friends have been very interested in building with the blocks in our castle. There has been lots of noise coming from in there. Hammering to screwing and gluing the pieces together.

We are also still lucky enough to have Miss Mary in the room with us as she is doing her placement for her studies. The Wilkins children have enjoyed various activities during this week. Miss Mary has experienced role-play cooking, singing songs and investigating float and sink with our Wilkins friends. We thank her again and look forward to seeing her next week.

We would like to send a warm welcome back to Miss Nicole who starts back with us as of Monday.

We look forward to another fun-filled week. Have a great weekend.

Love Miss Sarah, Mrs Carla, Miss Amy and Miss Ellen

Angwin

Dear Angwin Parents and Friends,

We have been having such a fun time in Angwin! It's been busy as always and our learning has really been centered around the children's interests and what they enjoy doing. We have also been drawing our self portraits and have discussed what it similar and what is different about us. It's an interesting topic to explore with four year olds. Their pictures are fantastic!

‘I have the same eyes as my sister. Actually, my eyes are the same as Leon's because he has blue. And Louis, and Lucille and Aiden and Will.’ Angus
‘Something is different to other people is people. So, um, when you get your skin already from when you’re a baby your skin changes colour. I have whiteish skin and you can have black.’ Leon

‘I got some new shoes.’ Louis
‘Rocky has blue eyes like me. And he was the same as he’s dad. And he has frozen skin. He is the same as others and he looks like and he’s the same as Sooky and his dad and his mum.’ Aiden

‘Some people have rainbow skin.’ Caitlyn
‘Some people have green skin like zombies.’ Angus

‘Um.. I have I don’t know my eyes are not blue because why I don’t know. I don’t know what colour day is?’ Valentina ‘Your eyes are brown.’ Teacher. ‘Yes, day are brown. The same as some other people.’ Valentina
‘Sometimes ghosts turn into people and they have brown skin.’ Louis

‘Me and Arwyn have the same skin. White and brown. It’s mixed up. And brown eyes and black hair.’ Sujay
‘I got red on my hair. Red on my…… Me and Max are both the same. Max and Cameron.’ Cameron

‘My eyes, they are little bit brown. Same as everyone else.’ Valentina
We have had several highly contagious viruses moving through our class. Please let us know if you’re child is unwell. We have pregnant staff in the centre and need to be particularly mindful of them, as the other children in our care. Can you please also make sure to return our calls as soon as possible if we ring regarding your child.

It’s been great having Mrs Rocca back with us. For the rest of the term Miss Faye, Mrs Rocca, Ms Wegener, Mrs Bishop and Mrs Schmidt will be the staff in this room.

Thankyou to Uncle Moogy and his Ngarrindjeri dancers for performing for us on Friday. We enjoyed hearing Uncle Moogy tell us about collecting swan eggs and looking for berries. The children were able to easily relate to the emu, whale and kangaroo dances and even had a try themselves back at class.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins Families,

What another great week we have had in the room.

This week our friends have been highly interested in painting. To extend the children’s interest we provided finger painting. All of our friends in the class really enjoyed this experience and getting their hands extra dirty.

We have also been liking our birthday corner with the play doh. We have all been singing happy birthday and blowing out candles various times throughout the day.

“Here Miss Ellen, I made you a birthday cake!” – Paige

“Look candles!” – Lewis

We are also still lucky enough to have Miss Mary in the room with us as she is doing her placement for her studies. The Wilkins children have enjoyed various activities during this week. Miss Mary has planned doll play, looking through magnifying glasses and sound enhancing activities. We thank her again and look forward to seeing her next week.

Now that the weather is a lot cooler in the mornings, we have shifted our morning drop off play to the LANGLEY ROOM.  If your child/children are at school before 8:15am please ensure you drop off in Langley room.

We look forward to another fun-filled week. Have a great weekend.

Love Miss Sarah, Mrs Carla, Miss Amy and Miss Ellen

Langley

Dear Langley Families and Friends,
This week we have started an exciting new project! As the Langley children have been going crazy for building over the last few weeks, we decided that we would do a REAL building project together! With assistance the children have been practicing a combination of their fine motor and their gross motor skills. We have been hammering small bits of wood to a large piece of ply using a nail and a hammer. Make sure you keep an eye out for our work in progress.

Ryan – “watch out for your fingers.”
Nyanwell – “we are using hammers.”

Henry – “I did it!”
We spent some time outside when it wasn’t too wet or cold. The children enjoyed cooking in the sandpit, typing letters to their Mummy’s and Daddy’s on the type writers, and balancing on the climbing equipment.

If there are any families who would like to demonstrate anything such as building, cooking, hair dressing, musical instruments or  anything you can think of PLEASE come and speak to one of the educators in the Langley Room or send Miss Sarah an email.
Thank you,

Miss Emily, Miss Renee, Miss Sarah and Miss Brooke.

Chapple

Dear Chapple Families

The Art Gallery was the standout activity of the week. The children had great fun at the gallery and Daniel, our guide, told us lots of things about paintings. The picnic lunch in the park was a great success and something we might try again. Lots of tired legs, but well worth the trip.

Edgerley

Dear Parents and Friends,
We have had a wonderful week exploring the way colours move and mix together. We did some investigations into mixing colours and exploring some Aboriginal art, we spent some time designing tree art and our week culminated in our trip to the Art Gallery on Thursday.

The boys did a fantastic job walking together to the Art Gallery. We were really proud of the way they kept going and kept alert, keeping together as a group and following our instructions. We had a very knowledgeable guide, Brian who shared some portraiture, some traditional Aboriginal art and some more contemporary Aboriginal art and sculpture.
The children were fascinated with what they saw. They enjoyed observing colourful tapestries, brightly hand painted Turkish tiles and even saris from Indonesia. Our lunch in the Botanical Gardens was a welcome break where we enjoyed specially packed picnic bags filled with delectable lunch.
A big thank you to our parent helpers, Marina, Adrian and Gordon for their wonderful assistance.

Kind Regards,
Pip, Emma, Ty and Rosalie
