Mead

Dear Mead Room families,
Week 3…. a whirlwind of activity and imagination!

We have continued our investigation of light by adding the term translucent to our scientific exploration.  We are utilising the overhead projector to tell stories – The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and to further explore the properties of light.  We also brainstormed different types of lights –

Annabel – the sun

Christian – torch

Sterling – a lighthouse

Sage – Traffic lights

Oliver – car lights

We read a book that showed us that sunlight reaches down into the sea but cannot penetrate right down in the depths of the ocean, here it is always in darkness – Lachlan explained that this area is called the ‘midnight zone’!

And after PE today we traversed the grounds of our school in search of more evidence of light and shadow;

Sterling – the flags around the hole on the oval had shadows

Cooper – I saw me!

Nicolas – I saw my shadow in the grass

Finny – a shadow disappeared… then it came back!

We had an amazing week – our unit of inquiry was interspersed with…. following a recipe to create beautiful green playdough, basking in the sunshine and taking advantage of this beautiful weather to utilise our outdoor kitchen – many incredible concoctions thought up in this area! And we found that the artworks created by Minnie Pwerle have lots of light and dark for us to explore too!

Have a great weekend.

Melissa and Renee.
