Dear Mattingley families and friends,
We have spent another busy week exploring the world of shadows. Last Friday on our way back from our PE lesson in the Prep school gym we decided that we were going to go on a shadow hunt. Unfortunately because it was such a gloomy overcast day there were no shadows, which got the children to thinking, ' what do we need for there to be shadows?'
"Sun" Ashlyn told us.
"There is no sun so no shadows!" Patrick explained.
So we decided to go for another shadow hunt through the Prep school on Monday. The sun was shining so we put on our jackets and armed with the camera off we went.
"You need the sun and I can see a blue sky" Angus assured us on our way out.
"Shadows!" Jaanav called out as we stepped out the front door and saw his shadow following him as he walked along the path. And sure enough we found lots of shadows as we walked up the path to the Prep school playground. Along the way the children excitedly discussed what they could see.
"Look my shadow! It stomps!" Leon
"The cars have shadows"-Louis
"There's a tree shadow"- Joe
"That's the spider web shadow. The sun makes it" Ethan explained as he pointed to the climbing frame in the playground.
The children are fantastic detectives and are now very good at spotting shadows. Perhaps while you are out and about on the weekend you might like to go on a shadow hunt of your own. If you happen to take any photos of shadows in your travels please feel free to bring them in to add to our display.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend,
The Mattingley Team
