Hi
Cooper families,
The
children have been talking a lot about the Lion Dance that was performed to the
children last week. To extend these conversations about their experiences, we
have set up the painting easels with pictures of the Lions from the Lion dance
at the ELC. The colours that the children chose to paint with were yellow, red
and orange. We also used a range of materials such as patty pans, aluminium
foil and paper doilies, which the children could choose to stick onto their
pictures. The artwork that the children created look fantastic and the children
were proud of their finished products.
We
have also been exploring meditation and quiet time in the mornings and
afternoons. A popular meditation that we have been experimenting with is
pretending that we are small seeds. We ask the children to lie on the floor to
do breathing exercises before we curl up into a small seed. Miss C and I talk
the children through the life cycle of a plant through our meditation. First
the children are pushed into the soil, watered, given sunlight and very slowly
the children start to grow and grow. We stretch our body’s right up into the
sky. This is a very relaxing start or finish to our busy day and the children
are responding well to the down time.
The
machines that we are creating in the classroom are becoming more elaborate each
week. We discuss what the children want to create and they select the shapes
that they will need to create their design. Many of the children then share
their creations and communicate with each other to explain how they work and
what their machine can do.
We
hope that you have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Love
Miss Gilbert and Miss C
