Dear Cooper Families
I
hope that everyone had a relaxing Christmas break. The children settled well back
into the term routine. Welcome to
Nicholas, Isla and William who are new to the Cooper room
this term. It has been lovely to see the children showing the new friends
around the ELC and helping to make them feel welcome in our classroom.
Our water trough in the classroom has been
very popular with the Cooper children. There were a range of materials such as
plastic cups, rocks, marbles and paper for the children to experiment and
explore with in the water trough. Over the week there were some fantastic
discoveries and learning that took place. We found that some of the objects
floated to the top of the water and others went sunk to the bottom.
Occasionally there were materials that could do both! They floated at first and
then sunk. We started to hypothesise as to whether the objects would float or
sink before they put it in the water. The children laughed and celebrated with
each other when someone’s predictions were correct.
We have started to talk about Chinese New Year
which starts on Monday the 8th of February 2016. We have introduced
some beautiful Chinese art, teapots and food to our home corner this week,
which has started discussions about the Chinese New Year celebrations. Over the
next 2 weeks we will continue to talk about and engage in learning experiences
around this festival.
We hope that you have a lovely weekend.
Love Maddie and Cris
