Dear Angwin families and friends,
After our Week 1 warm up, the children in the Angwin room
furthered their interest in puppets as they created designs using potatoes and
socks.
The children were very excited to share their designs as they
dressed their potato heads as their favourite characters.
"She's a girl with strong arms (big muscles). I did that so
she looks funny", a giggly Sujay shared.
" He can bash things like rocks because he is a cowboy and he
is 81 years old" shared Aiden.
" She doesn't have any face, or eyes or nose. So she bumps
into things because she can't see where she is going", laughed Ashlyn.
" She's wearing sparkly shoes, two lips and a crown",
explained Rachel.
Take some time and have a look at your children's creation.
The Making Table has been a favourite with children making cups of
coffee and chocolate to share with their friends. All prepared with sparkles
and special straws. It's wonderful to see children using their imagination and
taking their time to express their creative ideas using their choice of
materials.
On Wednesday, we had the opportunity to watch Bongo and Congo
of "The Amazing Drumming Monkeys".
The children giggled, laughed, danced and chanted as they
interacted with different characters.
"Percy the Penguin was so brave and so awesome",
exclaimed Katia as she cheered Percy on!
The best part was when the children got to learn to play the bongo
with their own miniature ones.
We now know that learning the bongo is so easy because you
only need to tap the middle for the base and the edge of the
bongo for the tone to make different sounds. You can do it fast or
slow and in whatever mood you are in.
The children even asked if the Drumming Monkeys can come
to our Kindy again.
We also made rainbow jelly and the children recalled the knowledge
they acquired on how to create new colours from primary ones.
Because we didn't have purple jelly, Mrs Rocca was told that we
could just mix the berry blue and raspberry jelly to make purple. What good
problem solvers the children were!
We also visited the library and were amazed to find that there is
a new Book Nook inside the library decorated with special paper lanterns and
lit up by fairy lights. We got to be comfortable in various cushions and chose
our own stories to browse, read and borrow too. We have to remember to tell Mr
Coleman how amazing it looked when you sit inside when the Term begins.
Next week is NAIDOC Week and to join in the celebration of the
Aboriginal Culture, we will explore various literature and art activities to
further explore these concepts. If your family is passionate about the
Indigenous culture, please feel free to share with us through stories, artwork
and anything that your family has engaged in.
Friday, 17 July, the entire Prince Alfred College ELC community
will participate in the National Pyjama Foundation event to raise funds
supporting children in foster care. To do this, children and staff alike are
encouraged to come in their favourite pyjamas or onesies and donate gold
coins for the cause. Please take the time to discuss this opportunity to help
with your children to further strengthen our desire to raise children with
socio-cultural awareness and caring attitude.
We are also collecting small clean jars and stockings to make our
grassheads as well as non operating small appliances for children to
deconstruct as we begin our Unit of Inquiry in Term 3.
