Dear Parents
and Friends,
The highlight
of our week exploring apples was making apple pie! We read our recipe and
discovered the first thing we needed to do was to peel and core 8 green apples.
Charlie was the first person to begin with the special machine that peels and
cores apples at the same time.
I can see
apple – Charlie A
That just
opens it – Dougal
That’s the
core – Jacob
Mine’s a long
worm – David (describing the curled skin as it was peeled)
Peel, peel,
it’s a peeler – Harry M
It’s a slinky
– Josh
It looks like
a spring – David
Jock began
his turn. He turned the handle one way and the skin began to peel off. Then he
turned it the opposite direction and the skin went back on!!
There goes
the cement mixer – said Toby as the machine began again
I want to eat
the noodles – Jock (describing the curled apple peel)
It’s like a
snake – Harry M
We then began
to cook the apple in an electric fry pan with lemon juice, butter, sugar and
cinnamon………….
Mrs McKenzie
explained that the lemon juice stops the apple from going brown.
It looks like
soup – said Olympia as the butter melted into the sugar
What happened
to the sugar? – asked Mrs McKenzie
It gets all
mixed up to bubbly – Tom
It smells
like yummy – Olympia
What will
happen to the apples when you cook them? Asked Mrs McKenzie
Dey will go
soft – Tom
It so yummy –
Harry B
Look at all
the steam because its berry hot – Dougal
Next week we
are looking forward to making both orange juice and vegetable soup.
Kind Regards,
Emma, Pip and
Amelia
