New Mattingley

Dear Mattingley class 2016 parents,

In the last few weeks, small groups of children from Langley have been enjoying visits in their new classroom a few hours each day. This helps them settle and be familiar with their new environment and also gives us an idea of their interests and social interactions with peers.
Currently, they have been loving painting at the easels, gluing and sticking at the art and craft table, build with blocks, play with sensory bins and listening to stories.

It has been a pleasure getting to know your children little by little and we are all excited to spending more time having fun learning when the term starts.

If you have not sent back your parent questionnaires yet, please remember to do so. This is a great a opportunity to update us of current happenings in your home environments especially changes in your child's routines health needs. If you  have any questions please email at crocca@staff.pac.edu.au while Ms Mason is still away

Chapple & Edgerley

Dear Chapple and Edgerley families,

A hot start to the week, but what a perfect day for our water day. It’s always fun to get wet on a hot day.

The children had a ‘Dancify’ lesson on Tuesday where they learnt some dance moves. At the end they were able to perform a complete dance to the tune ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’ from the Lion King.

Our School Adventure took us through the Prep School Office where we saw some carpet layers installing new carpet. After working our way through the Prep School we found the ‘Rainbow Playground.

‘Tickets Please’. At our Cinema Day every child had a ticket for entry to the movie, a ticket for popcorn and a ticket for a juice. We set up the Chapple room like a theatre and sat back and enjoyed the movie.

On Friday a barbeque was held as a farewell day for Miss Emma Gray. Emma is undertaking a new adventure in her life in the UK where she will be teaching and travelling. Emma is loved by all the children and staff here, is fun and engaging to work with and will be missed by all of us she leaves here at PAC ELC.  Good Luck Emma Gray!

Mead

Hello Mead families and friends,

We started off the week with a big splash as Benji brought in coloured water balloons to share with his friends. This was a great way to keep us cool with the warmer weather at the start of the week.

The children and teachers enjoyed participating in ‘Dancify’ on Tuesday morning furthering our movement and co-ordination skills while having lots of fun. Another big hit was watching a movie in our dining area with our friends from other classrooms.

We explored and furthered our creative and imagination skills by finger painting with assorted colours; we also created our very own rice balloons to use for painting with Miss Elodie. The children really enjoyed this experience as they discovered creating with a new form of texture. We will continue to explore painting using different forms of materials next week.

Miss Melissa created some green play-doh with the children as they have demonstrated lots of interest over the past week with manipulating and making a variety of shapes and objects with the play-doh.

On Friday some of the Mead children helped our garden workers do some digging in our outside yard. They used their strong muscles digging up the dirt with spades. What great helpers!!!

Over all, this week has been jam packed with indoor and outdoor experiences to further their learning development.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Miss Elodie and Miss Melissa

Angwin

Dear Angwin families and friends,

This week the children had lots of opportunities to engage in a variety of fun activities. On Monday, we tackled the hot weather with a nice soak under the sprinklers. Apart from throwing water balloons at each other, the best of it was sneaking up to our friends (and Mrs Rocca) and pour buckets of water on them.

On Tuesday, we got into a groove as we learned new dance music and moves with our Dancify instructor Erin. We got to show our dancing styles and loved the relaxation activity at the end of it.  On Thursday, we enjoyed the whole cinemas experience as we watched a Disney Movie called Bolt. There were tickets, drinks and of course pop corn.

And on Friday, we had a lovely sausage sizzle with Mr Ty, our King of the Grill! Sausages and fruit punch on a hot humid weather was just a perfect lead up to our Australia Day celebrations .

Indoors, we enjoyed a few board and group games especially the Cat in a Hat one. We continue our discussions and observations about things that grow and touched on what we can do to help save the planet. We tossed around a few ideas that we gathered from the book 'Arthur turns Green'. The children were amazed at even the simplest things we can do to in our homes like turning power off, recycling and planting trees. Please continue to encourage these kinds of conversations with your children at home. We better start their awareness on these matters early .

A few more Angwin children have said their goodbyes this week as they prepare for their new adventures this year. We wish them well.

'Til next week

Cooper

Dear Cooper Room Families and Friends,

During a week of hot weather the children have had the opportunity to spend the morning outdoors and the rest of the day keeping cool and busy indoors.

On Monday Miss C filled the water trough and the children went around the classroom to test if certain objects dropped in the water would sink or float. The children chose things like paper, match sticks, pop sticks, ribbon and plastic lids.

They’re floating! Ryan
I wonder why? Miss C
Because it has water? Ryan
That one floats! Zali
Nothing is sinking? Lexie
Why do you think these objects are not sinking? How about we trial something heavy? Miss C
So it can sink? Ryan

We look forward to seeing you all again next week.

Happy Weekend!

Wilkins

Dear Wilkins families and friends,
What another wonderful week of holidays we’ve had.
This week we have enjoyed doing easel paintings. We gave the children bold colours to choose from -  this allowed the children to paint and create whatever they desired.
Sienna – “Look at my painting!”
Paige – “I did a painting for my mummy!
We have also enjoyed time outside when the weather has been appropriate. On Thursday morning, Mrs Renee decided to get out a tub of water. The Wilkins and Langley friends spent lots of time bathing our babies and making sure they were all nice and clean. We washed their hair and even washed their clothes to hang out and dry. What a fun morning it was!
We have also been busy at the play-doh table this week. This has been a shared interest for the past few months with the Wilkins children. We have enjoyed making shapes and cutting with the scissors. This is a great experience as it allows the Wilkins children to engage in working together and also to develop trusting relationships with their peers.
This week we have spent some time in the Work Shop. We have enjoyed riding the cars and bikes around the work shop. This is a nice area to get out when the weather isn’t great but still allows our Wilkins friends to get out for a run and play!
Thank you again for another wonderful week in the Wilkins room.
We hope you have a wonderful and safe weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week!
Love Mrs Nicole, Miss Ellen, Miss Georgia and Miss Kim xxxxxx

Langley

Dear Langley Families,

WOW! What a busy week we have had!

This week we have been making our new friends feel welcome while they have been having a little visit. Our older children have been able to have a visit to the Mattingley Room with Mrs Rocca, we spoke about what they did in there.

Paxton – “Plays Legos.”
Samuel – “I saw Felix in there!”
Edward – “I play too.”
Fred – “Fred do painting.”

Dancify came to visit us on Tuesday, the children loved learning new dance moves
to the song ‘There’s a bear in the woods.’ We will continue to learn more each
week! Eventually we will be able to perform for you!

Isaac has been doing a lot of fixing, using a hammer. “I just need a ladder!” he
used plank of wood to stand on and he was able to reach up high and fix the arch.
As a class, we started a project. We have been choosing a piece of wood each to
nail into a board. We have discussed the safety and dangers on this project.
Keep an eye out through the process!

Happy Birthday to Oliver and Paxton! It was lovely to celebrate it with you J
Next week Miss Renee is off for a holiday, she will be back in two weeks! We will
have Miss Jennifer in the Langley Room with Miss Emily and Miss Brooke.

Have a great weekend,

Miss Renee, Miss Brooke and Miss Emily.

Mattingley

Dear families and friends,

This week was all about vehicles! Thanks to a generous donation of cardboard boxes from Harry BB each child had the opportunity to turn their box into something amazing that moves. From traditional cars, to aeroplanes and go karts the children were very creative in their thinking.

All week the children painted their vehicles, added tyres, a steering wheel and some even wanted a spoiler on the back too! On Thursday, the children took their car to a drive in movie where they bought movie tickets, popcorn and a drink with the pretend money they had. It was only $5 for the ticket and $2 for popcorn, very reasonable!

After lots of fun at the drive in, the children took their car for a big drive outside. It's amazing how much fun we can have from some simple cardboard boxes, Beep Beep!

Chapple & Edgerley

Dear Chapple & Edgerley Families and Friends,

This week on a walk around the school, we happened upon the boarders vegetable patch and thought we'd pick some of the produce! The children had a wonderful time picking and eating the strawberries that hid under the foliage! We also picked some tomatoes and pulled some carrots which we took back to the classroom to wash and try! They were delicious!

We were also spoilt with some hot weather for a water day. The children had a ball running under the sprinklers and throwing water balloons!

An afternoon of baking some yummy treats on Thursday was delightful! In groups we made vanilla cupcakes and jam drops. The children also made a funny face biscuit each! We shared and enjoyed our goodies together at afternoon tea!

As we are expecting another scorcher on Monday, please bring along your bathers and a towel for another water day! We will also be having a BBQ next Friday, which coincidentally is Miss Gray's last day before she leaves us to head to the UK for a year of teaching. We will miss her very much.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Shakespear, Mr Ty and Miss Gray

Angwin

Dear Angwin families and friends,

This week we celebrated Sujay's 5th birthday with cupcakes and some chocolates to take home.
We wished him the best especially for his new adventures as a Reception boy.

Anthony's gardening with his dad Dom sparked new interest in the classroom as the children shared about their gardens at home.
This led us to visit the Boarders' garden to find which plants grow (or die) at this time of the year.
The children documented their findings by taking photos of plants and writing their names. We also took some samples to continue our research.
Next week we will get our raised bed gardens ready and plant some new season vegetables. We are also collecting some succulents so if you have some cuttings please bring them for us.

The children have been so interested in Star Wars and have been sharing their ideas through art, craft and construction. Of course the Death Star is up there on their list.

Our current favourite game is Tactilo, a game that allows our sense of touch and brain together to find matching pieces just by touching them. Apparently looking is cheating so you can't look!

We have been chatting about our holidays too. If you bring some photos of your holidays or make a poster with it, we would love to display them in the classroom as well.

Please take note of the following days and activities

Monday- Wet and Wild Water Day. Please bring bathers, towels and spare clothes.
Tuesday: DANCIFY...all you need are your dancing feet and groovy bodies
Wednesday: Gardening
Thursday: Classroom Cinema....we can smell the popcorn already
Friday:   BBQ galore

Have a nice weekend

Coney and Faye

Congratulations

Congratulations to Sarah and Rob Colaiacovo on the birth of the newest addition to their family, Louie Giacomo - born 12th of January, 2016.

Edward is very impressed with his new role as big brother!

                                                              baby Louie waves hello!

Mattingley

Dear Mattingley families,

This week we have had further enjoyment exploring the school grounds and from our class photo booth. This has involved the children taking their own photos using the class camera, which has been attached to our hand made old fashioned tripod box. The children created their own sets using various props we collected around the school and their exciting imaginations.

Another highlight this week has been further experimentation and interest of colour. Our class has been filled with rainbows and colourful art work created with water colour. The children have been working very hard on writing their names on their masterpieces, we have been very proud of the support each class member has shown each other through this process. We have also had an ice experiment, melting 'primary coloured' ice blocks into a thin layer of rice and watching the secondary colours evolve.

See you next week

Love Miss Kim and Miss Bowden
