Dear Cooper Room Families and Friends,
We are coming to an end of the school holiday summer program
and what a blast it’s been!
This week we continued visiting the Library, Rainbow Playground,
Red Centre, Tennis court, exploring the school grounds, the children made
orange play dough, we painted some beautiful large bark chips Oscar brought in
to share. The highlight and the most popular experience was our floating and
sinking fun science concept for children to explore. Setting up a floating and
sinking trough invites children to play, experiment and explore how and why
different objects float and sink when placed into water. We added food colour
to water and watched as clouds of colour swirled around in the clear liquid to
discover the colour change. A few objects used to set this experience up was a rock,
sea shell, peg, pop stick, leaf, foam, bottle tops, and dinosaurs. We discussed
why certain objects sank and others didn’t, the weight, size and the material
the object is made of and how this influences the floating ability. This was a
positive learning opportunity – the kids absolutely love to play with water!
I hope you have a fabulous long weekend and see you all next week.
Love Miss C
