It's that time of the year again....Christmas shopping time :)
In the Front Office you will find some Christmas catalogues from Parent Direct and Chalk. Please feel free to take copies of each - they are all different. Once you have completed your order please give to Mrs Mandy and she will send off for you. Your purchases will then be delivered to the ELC for you to collect. The ELC will then receive discount vouchers that we can use towards resources for the children.
Reminder: The Woolworths Earn & Learn program is soon coming to an end. Please bring in any stickers you may have as soon as possible. We will send these off and then start choosing resources for the children.
Thank you on behalf of the ELC children :)

Book Week Parade
Dear Parents,
Book Week hit the ELC this week! The 4 year olds went to see two
performances as part of the Prep School Book Week activities - 'Everything Emu'
and 'Shine a Light'. The whole centre had a dress up day and parade on Tuesday.
There were some wonderful costumes and the children loved sharing which story
character they were and their favourite books. A huge thank you to the parents
who helped with wonderful costumes!
We hope you share the wonder of stories and reading with your
children. Reading stories to your child not only promotes early literacy and
language, but provides the opportunity for quality time with your little
ones.
Best wishes,
The ELC Staff

Cooper
Dear
Cooper families,
We
have had a busy and fun week in the Cooper room this week. As a part of our
unit of inquiry on “Marvellous Machines” we are starting to deconstruct
household machines in the classroom. This gives the children an opportunity to
see inside different machines and unpack how the work. We currently have a
computer hard-drive and a printer on our deconstructing table at the moment. It
is great to see the children asking questions and discovering how different
parts of the machine move and function.
On
Wednesday while we were walking back from our fun filled PE session in the Prep
School Gym, many of the children noticed the new blossoms that were blooming
from the trees outside the gym. This promoted a discussion on the changes that
are happening in our environment now that spring is approaching. Our class decided to take a few sprigs from the
tree to bring back into the classroom and continue these discussions. The
blossoms have now been placed next to the painting easels to inspire the
children while they are painting. Many beautiful pictures have come from this
experience and the children have been very engaged with the process.
The Cooper
room will continue to look at the changes that occur during spring.
Reminder: Book Week
Parade Tuesday the 25th of August in the Town Square.
We
hope that you had a lovely weekend.
Kind Regards,
Maddie and Cris

Angwin
Dear
Angwin families,
We
have enjoyed another jam packed week this week. We visited our buddies in the
big school to make the pizzas that we ran a survey for last term. We enjoyed
slopping ingredients all over 3Bi’s classroom. After the pizzas had all been
cooked we were mysteriously two pizzas short, we think that they may have been
gingerbread pizzas and ran out of the oven!
Luckily Ms Wegener was on hand with
her super pizza making skills to whip up two new ones! We also made milkshakes
in the classroom. Again we used our maths skills to survey the children to find
out our favourite ingredients. Banana and strawberries won hands down! We
looked at the machine we used to make them and thought about what was making it
work.
“It
needs power, electricity” suggested Aiden
“It’s
got cogs inside, cogs make things go round” said Arwyn
We
looked at the end from a safe distance as Mrs Bishop pushed the button. Arwyn
was right! The sharp bits at the end whizzed round and round!
We
also went on a hunt for spring flowers in the college, we were surprised at how
many we discovered. As we walked past the chapel we found a wall of beautiful
flowers and had a great time scaling the rocks like mountain goats to pluck all
of the various colours. We decided to press our flowers and created a giant
flower press outside our room (we decorated it and added chairs around it to
keep the little children away because it is very wobbly). We changed the paper
on Friday and found that it was very damp.
“The
water in the flowers gets squashed out and it’s the juice” said Joe R
“When
it’s a little seed and the rain comes it all goes into the flower when it grows
up and that is the water (that we can see)” said Oscar
We
also began to make gifts for our fathers, we need to use a machine to make it,
can you guess what it might be? No peeking!
Next
week we are making a doctors surgery to use up all the medicine the children
have been making in the sand pit.
“We
really need to make more medicine so we can give it to people, well, the people
that don’t have money or homes or food”, said Arwyn
“They
have to pay twenty million thousand for this medicine”, Samuel answered
“ No,
we don’t have to do that. They can have it for free”, said Arwyn
“But
why?”, asked Samuel
“Well,
they don’t have money to buy food so they don’t have money for medicine too”,
Leon answered and Arwyn agreed
“Okay,
we make more medicine then, and maybe we will deliver this to sick people in
the whole wide world”, Samuel agreed
If you
have any props we can use in our doctors surgery such as old masks, stethoscopes
etc… we would love to use them.
We
have also changed where we keep our portfolios. They are now on the shelf
outside our room. Feel free to take a seat in the black and white chair and
have a look at your child’s investigations before heading off to work. Feel
free to leave a comment for them if you want to J
Happy

Mead
Dear Mead Room families,
Another
busy week of investigation! We were
inspired to plant broad bean seeds after Lucas and Christopher excitedly shared
they had planted some in the outdoor environment and that they would grow, “On
Monday”, later that afternoon they called Miss White over, doubling over with
laughter, saying; “We tricked you!” So
we were intrigued to see what might happen if we did indeed plant some broad
bean seeds.
Aston – A seed, it will be a
plant
Kian – We were making
seeds. We put them in the cup, it will grow big and strong
Wilbur – the seed, water it
and it will grow
Lucas – we put a seed in the
cup, some balls of cotton and water. Its on the table so it has light. Its going to grow and grow into a……
BEANSTALK!
We
will be observing our seeds intently to see if there will be any changes. We will keep you posted!
We
welcome back Jack from his hiatus in Japan.
It is so lovely to have almost everyone back in the Mead Room!
Our
construction table has been a hive of activity!
Many amazing machines have emerged from this creative space, some from
our imagination and some a personalised version of machines we know;
Banjo – this is a helicopter
boat. It can land on water. It flies. It saves people from the sky and the
water.
Louis – A breaking
machine. Breaks up walls, breaks up
roofas. It breaks up the break! The things on the top do the breaking.
Lucy – It’s a lolly making
machine. There’s a flicky bit and the
lollies come out of the hole. Just press
that button

Langley
Dear Langley families,
This week we watched an Aboriginal dreamtime story on YouTube. The
story was about “Tiddalick the Frog” who drank all the water in the river. The
animals tried to make Tiddalick laugh so the water would come out of his
stomach. We all loved watching this dreamtime story and hope to investigate
Aboriginal culture further with traditional dot paintings on natural materials.
Also this week we helped Miss Emily dye some sand red for our
Australian outback area. The children helped sift the clean sand into a tub then
poured red water into it. We mixed it together and let the sand dry. Marcel, Chloe,
Daniel and Samuel took a particular interest in cleaning the sandpit after this
experience, and loved watching the clean sand fall form the sieve.
On Tuesday, we found some snails in our garden. Miss Renee and the
children thought it would be nice to make a habitat for the snails in our
classroom so we can observe them throughout the day.
Here is what the children
thought would make the snail’s habitat feel lovely and homey…
Marcel – “Grass”
Roy – “Grass, rock”
Larissa – “Rice”
Paxton – “Flower”
Marcel – “Snail sand”
Some reminders for next week:
Our ELC Book Week Parade, Tuesday at 9:30am in the Town
Square.
Please return your RSVPs and surveys for our Big Boys Breakfast
ASAP.
Have a great weekend

Mattingley
Dear Mattingley families and friends,
Over the last few weeks we have been practicing some of the events
that we will be participating in as part of sports day. We all really love
playing with the parachute, taking it in turns to run under. We have to go down
very, very low and then jump up high to make the parachute go up, up, up!
We are also getting very good at maneuvering our bodies through Mr Barton's
obstacle course. Sometimes we get a bit wobbly over the balance beams, however
when we persist we can usually make it all the way over. We look forward to
showing you all that we learn in our PE lessons with Mr Barton on Sports
Day.
Sports Day in on the 24th of September in week 10. If you are
unsure what house team your child is in please ask either Miss Mason or Miss
Bowden and we will do some research for you.
Next week's show and tell topic is: A machine that is used in
the garden. (This can either be a picture drawn by the child, a photo
or the real machine if it is safe to bring in.)
We hope you all have a lovely weekend,
Kimberley Mason & Coral Bowden
